DePaul offers Master of Laws (LLM) programs in Health Law, Intellectual Property Law, International Law and Taxation. Our programs are designed to provide foreign-trained lawyers and graduates of non-U.S. law schools with an understanding of the U.S. legal system, and to provide U.S. lawyers and law graduates with expanded knowledge and training. You may complete an LLM program through an intensive, one-year course of full-time study or on a part-time basis.

Health Law DePaul’s health law program has been a leader in the education of future generations of health law partners, policy makers and critical thinkers since its inception in 1984. The Mary and Michael Jaharis Health Law Institute is at the center of the program and offers students opportunities to participate in its work—from community and business related programming, to groundbreaking research and policy reform. Guided by outstanding full-time faculty and leading health law attorneys, the curriculum evolves as the field of health care law changes.

Intellectual Property Law For more than a decade, DePaul’s intellectual property law program has ranked among the best in the nation. The Center for Intellectual Property Law & Information Technology (CIPLIT®) oversees the program and is internationally recognized for its academic programs and faculty scholarship. With a broad range of course offerings, the LLM in Intellectual Property Law is regarded as one of the most comprehensive programs in the country.

International Law The LLM in International Law emphasizes the theoretical background and practical skills that lawyers need to excel in international law practice. The program is designed for both experienced attorneys and recent law school graduates from the United States and abroad who wish to earn an advanced degree in one of the following concentrations:

International Aviation Law & Policy International Governance & Rule of LawInternational Business, Commercial & Trade Law International Human Rights Law & PolicyInternational Cultural Heritage Law and Criminal Justice

TaxationDePaul’s LLM in Taxation offers a comprehensive curriculum that provides instruction in both the substantive and procedural aspects of tax law. Courses range from the basics of personal and business income taxation to advanced problems in corporate and partnership taxation, estate and gift taxation, state and local taxation, and international taxation law.

Degree Requirements– Students must complete 24 credit hours of coursework at DePaul within the

selected LLM curriculum.– LLM candidates must earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Program Features– Students may complete the program through either an intensive, one-year course of

full-time study or a more flexible, part-time schedule.

– Students can choose from courses offered in the day or evening to provide flexibility in scheduling around professional and personal demands.

ADMISSION

WHEN TO APPLYDePaul University College of Law has a rolling admissions process and reviews applications as soon as they are completed. Early application is recommended. Applicants should submit all required materials by the deadline for the term for which they wish to apply.

HOW TO APPLYApplicants should submit the following materials in order to be considered for admission:– Completed application – $40 application fee– Personal statement– Résumé– Two letters of recommendation– Official law school transcript

Applicants who have earned primary law degrees from international institutions should also submit:– TOEFL/IELTS score– Evaluated law school transcript. Transcripts may be evaluated by LSAC,

CAS, ECE or from another organization approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Prospective students must have received a law degree from an accredited U.S. law school or a Bachelor of Laws from a foreign law school, or will have received such a degree prior to seeking admission.
