Lions of District 50 Hawaii, your Hosts of the 98th AnnualInternational Convention

The Lions of District 50 Hawaii are a dedicatedgroup of men and women that identify a number ofcritical community needs, then work together toraise the manpower and funds to fulfill those needs.The 1,800 Lions of District 50 Hawaii are membersof 66 different local Lions Clubs throughout theislands. Their clubs proudly sponsor 35 separateLEO Clubs throughout the states adding anenergetic corps of 2,000 more young people to ourfront lines of service to the community. The HawaiiLions & LEOs relentlessly and unselfishly volunteertheir talents, time, skills, and donations to assist andserve the people of Hawaii and anywhere elsethroughout the world where our “We Serve” alohaspirit can make a difference.

Key projects include:

• District 50 Hawaii Lions Foundation and EyeBank- The major activity and focal pointof the Foundation is the Hawaii Lions EyeBank and Makana Foundation (HLEBMF).The only eye banking facility in Hawaii andthe Pacific Islands, HLEBMF has beensupported and managed solely by the Lions of Hawaii for the past 34 years. Since its inception, the Eye Bank has beenresponsible for restoring the sight of almost5,000 patients in Hawaii and currentlyaverages approximately 200 corneatransplants a year.

• Vision and Hearing Screenings- Since 2010,the Lions of Hawaii have visually screenedover 22,000 students and referredapproximately 17% of these children foradditional vision care.

• Safe Sidewalks - “Recognized as one of theTop 3 Outstanding Service Projects by LionsClubs International”. The City and the LionsClubs of Hawaii worked together to makeshort-term repairs to the 1,800 miles ofsidewalks in metro Honolulu.

• Afghanistan Project- The Kamehameha LionsClub & Foundation became the first Lionsorganization in the world to create a uniquehumanitarian outreach program to assist theimpoverished in the war-torn mountainvillages of Afghanistan. Since 2009, theKamehameha Lions from all District 50Hawaii Lions Clubs, LEO Clubs and theHawaii Lions Foundation, have delivered over10,000 pairs of eyeglasses, school suppliesand thousands of pairs of socks to Afghanvillagers in dangerous areas.

Convention VenueINFORMATIONThe Hawaii Convention Center (HCC) will be the hub of activity duringconvention week. We’re sure you’ll enjoy the convenience of having theInternational Show, plenary sessions, certification, seminars and more - all under one roof.

The HCC boasts modern conveniences with Hawaiian charm includinglandscaped terraces, lanais, courtyards, waterfalls, and fishponds.
