www.nasa.gov EXPLORATION IDEA PROFILE: Virtual Reality: Clean Room EXPLORATION IDEA The virtual reality clean room is a replica of a Goddard Space Flight Center spacecraft assembly clean room. This virtual reality experience gives users an idea of what it’s like for NASA scientists and engineers during the build phase of a satellite. Our first virtual clean room satellite is the Magnetospheric Multiscale Mission, or MMS. Various instruments and components of MMS are interactive, along with a few other surprises. We will be adding educational content about the clean room itself, and more in depth learning about the satellite, its mission, and data. This same environment will be used for multiple satellites and missions in the future. TARGET AUDIENCE(S) Our virtual reality products are designed for people of all ages, however some virtual reality manufacturers have age recommendations for their products. POTENTIAL IMPACT This exploration will lead to a better understanding of NASA mission science and engineering and give users a unique look into Goddard Space Flight Center (and by extension, other NASA facilities) that otherwise would not be possible. Furthermore, virtual reality allows us to expand on the experience without the physical constraints of the real world. This creates a huge potential impact.
