Welcome to our Fall 2015 Program Guide. The first year of the Community Ed partnership between Parkway and Rockwood has been a success, and we can’t wait to get started with year two! We invite you to join us and ‘Explore Something New’ this fall. Here’s a look at just some of what’s in store for youth, adults and families:

• Our girls recreational volleyball league for grades 3–8 is expanding and will now include practice and game locations at both Rockwood and Parkway schools. See page 7.

The Parkway Swim Club has a storied tradition that extends over a span of 40 years and includes Hall of Fame coaches and Olympic athletes. We at PKWY strive to provide

swimmers of all ages, through training and guidance, the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to formulate and attain their goals. PKWY is committed to establishing a supportive environment for swimmers of all levels of ability. Each swimmer is an important team member and will be provided with the opportunity to develop self-confidence, discipline and many other skills that will be useful for the rest of their lives both in and out of the pool.

We train and compete in an atmosphere of fun, friendship and team spirit while further building Parkway Swim Club’s tradition of excellence. With over 100 years of combined coaching experience, the PKWY coaching staff prides itself on creating the most exciting, inspiring and fun place for swimmers to grow and develop. Our motto “We Do Big Things” is a testament to our goal to reach our full promise as a team through the collective success of our individuals.

Community Ed offers two competitive swim programs. Both programs are open to all residents of the Parkway and Rockwood School Districts.

Athlete development: Parkway Swim Club uses a “progressive” program designed to develop the child physically, mentally and emotionally in a systematic fashion and over a long period of time. A well-defined, long term approach of gradually increasing levels of commitment has been proven to be essential to long-term development in the sport of swimming. The emphasis in the early stages of participation is placed on developing technical skills and a love for the sport. In the later years, a more demanding physical and psychological challenge is introduced to the training program.

Group Placement: Group placement is determined by a swimmer’s age, ability level, commitment level and personal goals. Group placement is at the discretion of the Parkway Swim Club professional coaching staff and is determined following a team tryout.

Team Tryouts: All prospective members must complete a team tryout to allow for appropriate group placement. Please visit our website at www.pkwy.org or call 314-415-4900 for more information. Visit www.pkwy.org or call

314-415-6939 for more information.

Facility usage

Rockwood believes schools and buildings should be made available for community use when it does not conflict with the District's primary purpose of educating students. Many indoor and outdoor facilities are available for use by the public outside of school hours and on weekends (some restrictions apply).

Visit the Rockwood Facility Usage website at www.rsdmo.org/facilityusage to learn how to request use of Rockwood facilities. For more information, contact 636-733-2167 or [email protected]

Parkway Schools welcomes the use of its buildings and grounds by community organizations. Applications will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis and school-sponsored activities will have priority over non-school activities. Usage fees to offset costs may apply, depending upon the type of event or activity.

Visit the Parkway Facility Use page at www.parkwayschools.net to learn how to request use of Parkway facilities. For more information, contact 314-415-8052 or [email protected].

Registration Available online at www.prcommunityed.org Registration may also be made by mail. Programs are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. An adult registration form is available on page 35.

Fees and Cancellation Policy Most Community Education programs are fee-based programs, as we are self-supporting. Fees vary per program. Unless otherwise noted, all necessary materials and supplies are included with registration fee. When possible, online registration is encouraged. If registering by mail, be sure to include all fees with the appropriate registration form. Make checks payable to Parkway-Rockwood Community Ed.

A charge of $25 for any returned payment will be assessed. A $5 processing fee will be charged for all refunds for programs with a registration fee up to $100. An additional $5 will be added per each additional $100 increment of registration fee.

You must call and cancel at least five business days prior to the start of the class/program to be guaranteed a refund. Due to the nature of the programs Adventure Club, Early Childhood, Parkway Swim Club/Swim School, Rockwood Swim Club, Rockwood Thunder Volleyball and Trek and Travel may have separate refund policies. Cancellation of classes/programs will be at the discretion of the Community Education office.
