Welcome to the 2018 Atlanta Science FestivalPlace your seat backs and tray tables in their upright and locked positions - the 2018 Atlanta Science Festival is about to take off! We’ll be cruising through 100 engaging science events and making connections at venues across the metro Atlanta region. You’ll see drones and robots, comics and comedy, farms and orchards, nature walks, ice cream tastings, art, trivia, curling, superheroes, beavers, newts, and bees! And just when you think it’s over, we’ll reach our final destination at Piedmont Park for Atlanta’s biggest family science event, the Exploration Expo! We invite you to join the thousands of curious kids and adults to experience the wonder of science.

Delta Air Lines is extremely proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Atlanta Science Festival. With this partnership, we are committed to building a vibrant and engaged Atlanta community, and to advancing education and shaping the lives of future employees and customers. Not Just Newts: Behind the Scenes with the Amphibian FoundationChildren, Families, Teens, AdultsAtlanta is home to a unique nonprofit dedicated to the conservation and research of amphibians amidst a global population decline. In 2016, The Amphibian Foundation formed to focus on conserving two of Georgia’s most imperiled species (Gopher Frog and Flatwoods Salamander). Since then, the Foundation has begun working on other native and globally endangered amphibians. Closed to the public, this is a chance to see the conservation collections and meet Foundation staff working to save these vital and sensitive animals from extinction.

The Golden RecordTeens, AdultsForty years ago, a team of American scientists started the Voyager Program sending on the spacecraft The Golden Record - two phonograph

records filled with sounds and images from Earth for other life forms to discover. Seventy-five years before that, an illusionist and filmmaker, Georges Méliès (portrayed in the 2011 movie Hugo) imagined what we might find on a “Trip to the Moon”. Join The Hereafter Artist Collective and Flight of Swallows as we envision how far away lifeforms might imagine humanity based on the contents of The Golden Record through aerial acrobatics, modern dance, and live music in the aesthetic of Georges Méliès. The Power of ConnectedAdultsDecades ago, science fiction writers described a world in which objects were connecting and exchanging data about us,

our preferences and our lives. Reality has rapidly caught up with this imagined world where phones now track our locations, watches tell us our heart rates, and thermostats know when we are home and set our home temperature accordingly. In this event, we’ll hear from local experts on how these critical connections and the Internet of Things are changing our lives and our futures.

Autism in the Media: How Real is it?AdultsShows like Parenthood, books like The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, and movies like Forrest Gump all portray characters with autism. With 1 in 68 people being effected by autism spectrum disorder, it’s no wonder we are seeing the disorder more in the popular media. To get it right, producers frequently consult experts to ensure that a character is being depicted authentically, and now we’re bringing those experts to you! Our panel of clinicians and science communicators will share their personal experiences in consulting on popular movie sets and shows that are currently starring an individual with autism.
