The three main themes for the Korea-Maryland, USA Bio Expo are to promote the

biotechnology industry in three growth engines: Innovating, Partnering, and

Consulting. The purpose of this exhibition is to initiate and develop collaboration

between the Korean and US bio-industries.

The State of Maryland is an international center for bio-industry development since

Governor Martin O’Malley announced the ‘Bio Maryland 2020’ policy to focus on

biotechnology development in 2009. The State of Maryland has played a significant

role for promoting international bio-industry development by working with nineteen

federal agencies (FDA, NIH, USDA, NCI and NIST, etc) in the State of Maryland. The

State of Maryland Business Office- Korea is a representative of State of Maryland

Department of Business & Economic Development (DBED) and has a charter for bio

technology business development in the State. Through increased collaborations

between the State of Maryland and the State of Maryland Business Office- Korea,

there have been developments for Maryland to be the U.S.’s access point into

Southeast Asia as well as world marketplace since 2008.

미연방 19 개 규제기관(FDA, NIST, NIH, USDA, NCI 등)이 소재되어 있는 메릴랜드

주는 세계 최고의 미국 바이오 산업의 중심지로서 주지사인 마틴 오말리가 2008 년

technology industries; Memorandums of Understanding agreements were signed to

build collaborative relationships among government, academic, and business

industries. Through the management of these partnerships, initiatives will develop the

relationship between the U.S and Korea bio-industries and promotion for the Korea-

Maryland, USA Bio Expo 2011.
