EXPORTING AUDIO FROM AFTER EFFECTS

and/or PREMIERE TO PRO TOOLS

We wholeheartedly DO NOT recommend doing ANY kind of sound work in After Effects. But if you do,

you will need to export your AE sequence as a Premiere project, which you then open in Premiere.

From your Premiere sequence with audio tracks, Export -> OMF...

This window will appear.

Give the OMF a Title that

has some meaning.

OMF stands for Open Media

Framework. An OMF�ÀOH�DFWV�as a translator between video

editing software and Pro Tools.

There are several pulldown menus where you set parameters for your OMF export.

It is imperative that these parameters be set

correctly. Otherwise your OMF will not work

when imported into Pro Tools.

Separate Audio

Broadcast Wave

Copy Complete Audio Files

When all of the parameters are set properly, click OK.

Specify a place for the OMF.

You will get a progress window then an information

window.

The [name]Log.txt�ÀOH�LV�D�GXSOLFDWH�RI�the OMF Export Information window.

Launch Pro Tools and Create Blank Session according to our SOP.

Move the .omf and .txt

ÀOHV�LQWR�WKH�VHVVLRQ�folder.

Really.

No kidding.

Do it now.

Copy your video into the Video Files folder.

Import it into your session.

Import -> Session Data... Select the .omf�ÀOH�

You will get this

window. OK.

As with the OMF Export

in Premiere, there are

certain parameters that

must be set correctly.

To insure that your audio is imported into PT

at the right place, Map start timecode to

01:00:00:00.

In Audio Media Options,

Copy from source media.

You will probably get the dread Missing

Files�ZLQGRZ���,Q�WKLV�FDVH�LW·V�QRW�VR�EDG���Make sure Automatically Find & Relink is

selected and click OK.

VOILA! All of your sound from Premiere at the right time!

Select the new tracks

and drag them up above

the Master Fader.

One annoying thing that Premiere does with an OMF export is that it duplicates mono audio tracks.

You get this in Pro Tools:

No problem, just delete

the duplicate.
