Exquisite Corpse
L3 Fashion Design and Business Diploma Summer Project
Key points to remember:
This is:
● A summer project● A way if staying focussed, inspired and creative● A great way of initially meeting your new class in september● Fun and you are in control - it’s your creative interpretation
Your starting point will be items of clothing, from home or sourced from charity shops (ask first if it’s someone else's!) You will create a series of ‘new looks’ using the method of exquisite corpse
1: Research the term Exquisite Corpse looking at 3 artists influenced by this, and at least 3 Fashion Designers
2: Pick 3 contrasting garments
3: New Looks - Produce 9 new looks and photograph them, test things out and have fun!
4: Deconstruct // Reconstruct - Create 3 new garment looks. Then select the look that is your final garment.
5. Location - Take photos of at least 6 locations, they can be unusual or aesthetic; for example, a car park, beach, meadow, supermarket … it's entirely up to you and your creative direction! Please do you props if you wish!
What is Exquisite Corpse?“Cadavre exquis is similar to the old parlour game consequences – in which players write in turn on a sheet of paper, fold to conceal what they have written, and pass it on to the next player – but adapted so that parts of the body are drawn instead.
It was invented in 1925 in Paris by the surrealists Yves Tanguy, Jacques Prévert, André Bretonand Marcel Duchamp.”
