TVDSB’s Extended French Immersion

The Thames Valley District School Board is

proud to offer parents and students the

opportunity to enroll in an Extended

French Immersion Program.

The Extended French Program is designed

specifically for students whose first

language is not French.

The Extended French program begins in

Grade 7 and continues through secondary

school. Students have the opportunity

to be granted a certificate of Extended

French at the end of high school once 7

credits have been completed in French (4

FSL courses, 3 other subject areas).

Current Framework for Learning in Extended French

A minimum of classroom instruction is

80% French including all content areas

(Mathematics, History, Geography,

Physical Education, and the Arts) except

for English Language Arts (20%). The

Revised Curriculum for FSL indicates that

the language of communication in all

classroom interactions is French in all FSL

Programs including Extended French so

that students receive constant exposure

to the language in a variety of situations

(p. 13).
