How we are going to help you •Talking you through the documents you have to prepare•Talking you through the online tools we have provided to help you completing the form and other useful information• From 11th September: We will check your supporting documents (photographs, financial evidence e.g. bank statement or sponsor letter, previous qualifications, translations)
IMPORTANT NOTE:
• You should keep photocopies of your passport pages and of your visa pages
• We also recommend to keep photocopies of all the documents you submit

Photographs• Read the UKBA photograph guidance (see slide 4)• Do not use old photographs taken in your home
country, photographs must be less than 1 month old.• Go to a photographer (e.g. Max Spielmann on High
Street in the town centre or Seaman Photography on London Road)
• Measure the photographs (overall size and head size)• don’t smile, have a neutral expression• Make sure the background color is either cream or grey• Write your name on the back of each photograph

How much money do you have to show? • You must show that you have the outstanding tuition
fee for the first year plus the required maintenance amount for yourself and, if applicable for any dependants who are applying with you
• The majority of ELTC students will have to show £7200 maintenance (£4050 for each dependant if applicable) plus outstanding course fees.
• If you have already paid all the tuition fees, you only have to show the maintenance amount

Bank statements• We recommend to use bank statements of your UK bank account
where possible, but parents bank statements are also acceptable (see next slide). Bank statements of any other family members are not acceptable.
• Bank statements must not be older than 1 month which means:
• The date of the last transaction must be less than a month old
• If your bank statement was printed within the last month but the last transaction was more than 1 month ago, your visa application will be refused
• Bank statements must include student’s name, logo, account number, date of the statement
• Online statements must be stamped on each page

If you are using parents’ bank statements• You must include a letter from your parents, confirming that they
will cover your living costs and tuition fees
• This letter must be original with the original signature (scanned letters are not acceptable)
• You need to include your original birth certificate (no copies, no scanned versions). If this is not in English, you must provide a translation (translations also have to meet a certain format, see slide number 25 for further information)
• Your parents bank statements have to meet the same formal requirements as if you are sending your own bank statements (see previous slide)

We recommend:
• If your visa application is refused or rejected as invalid, you must show £7200 for 28 days if you make a fresh application so it is safer to keep at least £7200 in your bank account until your visa is granted
• Therefore we strongly recommend:
1. Ask your parents to transfer £7200 into your bank account no later than 1st August and keep it in your account until your visa has been granted
2. Ask your parents to pay the full tuition fee before making the visa application

If you are sponsored• Sponsored means that your tuition fees and maintenance
are paid by an official financial sponsor
• Official financial sponsors are any of those: Your Government or the UK government or your Home University or the University of Sheffield or an international company or an international scholarship agency
• You must provide an official financial sponsor letter (no scans/no photocopies).
• See slide 11 for more details on the formal requirements for the sponsor letter
19/04/23 © The University of Sheffield
Your sponsor letter• Must be original (no photocopies/scans), printed on the
sponsor’s letter headed paper and include:
• Official stamp of the organisation
• Students name
• Name and contact details of the official financial sponsor
• Date of the letter (dated within one year)
• Length of the sponsorship
• Amount the sponsor is giving to the student or a statement that the student’s official financial sponsor will cover all of the fees and living costs
