NSTDA Vice President’s Welcome/Omjai 副長官よりご挨拶
Reflecting upon TAIST-Tokyo Tech's achievements
over the past year, and its ambitious plans for the future, I am
struck by the many ways in which the National Science and
Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in collaboration with
Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), Japan and four
leading Thai universities — King Mongkut's Institute of
Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi
(KMUTT), Thammasat University by Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT),
and Kasetsart University (KU) — contribute to the mission of education, research, and
activity support. As the main objective of TAIST-Tokyo Tech is human resource
development to foster and support world-class researchers and high-level engineers, the
TAIST-Tokyo Tech collegiate contribution to education and research activities is significant
and is set to grow.

From my point of view, the single most important foundation of sustainable
social development at both the national and international levels is the quality of education.
Since 2007, NSTDA has put educational resources, researchers, experts and professors at the
disposal of TAIST-Tokyo Tech. Our students, professors and staff benefit from TAIST-
Tokyo Tech‘s resources. Program Committee members of both the Thai and Tokyo Tech
sides provide intensive, basic, and advanced courses for master‘s degrees in three programs,
including Automotive Engineering (AE), Information and Communication Technology for

On 31st August, TAIST-Tokyo Tech hosted its annual graduation ceremony, attended
by our 33 (AE9, ICTES 10, EnvE14) graduating students and 200 guests, including
professors, researchers, alumni, supporters and graduate students' parents and relatives.
Generously funded by our supporters and vigorously administered by our team, this program
has thus far succeeded phenomenally, with a total of 164 graduate students as of August 31
2015. Amongst them, 35 students have gone on to pursue further education in Ph.D.
programs. Others are working in educational and research institutions, universities,
governmental organizations and industries.

NSTDA‘s researchers also make an invaluable contribution to TAIST-Tokyo Tech by
working as mentors, helping students translate theory into practice and guiding them through
the knowledge and the processes needed to accomplish professionally their thesis/research.
The most significant endorsement of the outstanding quality and importance of NSTDA
researchers is apparent in this report‘s section on graduate students' research topics.

Overview /概要
1. Introduction and History /歴史
TAIST (Thailand Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) is based on the idea
of collaboration among NSTDA and partner universities in Thailand and foreign institution(s)
to develop Thai human resources. TAIST serves as a virtual institution and focal point.
NSTDA provides researchers to act as adjunct professors, assistance with research projects,
and scholarships for graduate students. A foreign institution provides a world class
background, expertise and experience, academic instruction and research advice. Thai
universities provide an academic frame work, academic staff to oversee and guide students,
and degrees for the successful candidates. In 2007 the viability of the idea was nicely
demonstrated by the creation of the first TAIST, entitled Thailand Advanced Institute of
Science and Technology - Tokyo Institute of Technology (TAIST-Tokyo Tech), with the
cooperation of Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), King Mongkut‘s Institute of
Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT),
King Mongkut‘s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Kasetsart University
(KU). It is expected that several similar collaborations will be established in the future.

Mr. Mek Srilomsak
(7AE class, KMITL)
My name is Mek Srilomsak. I am a brand new graduate
with a master‘s degree in Automotive Engineering, TAIST-
Tokyo Tech program, King Mongkut‘s Institute of Technology
Ladkrabang.
It is with great pleasure that I submit this message to the
TAIST-Tokyo Tech program. I really appreciate the program
which has given me an academic scholarship and also
suggested me to receive the 2013 Hino Motors TAIST-Tokyo
Tech Scholarship.
During the program, I had opportunities to study from
many high quality Japanese and Thai professors. All subjects
are really interesting. They benefit me not only in terms of
scientific knowledge, but also ways of logical thinking. I
believe that all of the things I have learned from the program
will be sustained with me for a long term. Besides the
outstanding lecturers, there are also high quality staffs of the
TAIST-Tokyo Tech office. They always support us in many
activities. Obviously, their jobs have been really professional.
Finally, I would like to give my gratitude to the National
Science and Technology Development (NSTDA) which
provided the full scholarship for studying in the master‘s
program and the National Metal and Materials Technology
Center (MTEC), especially for providing the laboratory
equipment and instruments which benefited my thesis a lot.
I am sure that I will apply all things I have gained from
being a student in the TAIST-Tokyo Tech program to ‗give
back to the society‘ of my home country and all over the world
in the future.

TAIST-Tokyo Tech is a master‘s degree international
program for studying engineering and information technology. I
have been taught by real specialists and professors with the
cooperation from three organizations (Thailand University,
NDSTA, and Tokyo Tech University). Not only theoretical
study, I have also experienced practical study with real
equipment supported by this program. At last, I am very
impressed by this program‘s activities such as the field
education site, job opportunity, conference, and etc. It makes me
familiarize with other people in my field area, even foreigners
who increase opportunity for doctoral education or work not
only in Thailand but internationally as well. Therefore, in my
opinion this program is one of the best choices for graduate
study in engineering and information technology.

various subjects, and improved my thinking. We shared our ideas,
knowledge, and experiences more often both outside and inside
the classroom. I did not only study from the theories in document
but also got knowledge of the Japan region from sensei. The staff
members are all so friendly and welcoming of students, and they
were very approachable if I ever had any questions or whenever I
sought advice, science-related or otherwise.

I am so grateful for the TAIST-Tokyo Tech scholarship
for the opportunity to fulfill my dream with further education.
This scholarship has a great team with good collaboration with
professors both in Thai universities and in Tokyo Tech
University. Besides, there are nice staff members to help you deal
with paperwork and miscellaneous issues during your master‘s
education journey.
Moreover, there is also a big chance to meet and work
with people who have high-quality work standard in academic
field so that you can grow and advance your thinking process,
working method and also life experience toward career profession
in academic and research world.
We had not only great opportunities for extra- curriculum
activities like field- trip to study the production process of
factories of well- known private companies or specific
government agencies, but also help for the students to understand
more in their subjects in depth level and also have a networks
with future employer.
During my time as a recipient of TAIST-Tokyo Tech
scholarship, I have a lot of great friends and valuable people who
can help me to grow to be the better version of myself in both
academic world and in real life.

First of all, I am especially grateful to Thailand Advanced
Institute of Science and technology and Tokyo Institute of
Technology (TAIST-Tokyo Tech) under the National Science and
Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Tokyo Institute of
Technology (Tokyo Tech), and Kasetsart University which
provide scholarship for my master‘s degree. I am delighted and
very proud that I passed the interview and English exam to study
in Advanced and Sustainable Environmental Engineering
program. I never imagined that I could study in international
program because my English skill was quite poor. Therefore, the
first problem for this course was English language that it was
quite difficult for me. But I also felt that it was a challenge which
I could practice my English skill. In this course, there are several
subjects and many contents which involved environmental,
global, management, principles of environmental engineering etc.
While my background is science, it's hard to understand some
engineering subjects. However, I could pass the exams in all
subjects and got satisfactory grades. I have found many teachers
thus I would like to adapt myself because their teaching styles are
different. All professors from Japan are kind and try to understand
students who may not speak English well; sometimes it is
difficult to communicate. However, professors try to understand
and motivate student to be self-confident. After course work
finished, students have to do the thesis with researchers in
NSTDA. I worked with MTEC researcher, and the advisor from
Kasetsart University. I would like to acknowledge Assoc. Prof.
Patana Anurakpongsatorn, Dr. Sorachon Yoriya and Prof. Dr.
Nobuaki Otsuki, my thesis advisor, thesis co-advisors, and
professor from Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) for
their kind support, suggestion and guidance, which encouraged
me to complete my research. I feel very lucky to be working with
MTEC and worked under NSTDA which is a famous
organization in Thailand. Finally, I am so proud that I was able to

Only two years which I spent in TAIST-Tokyo Tech
program, it was a great experience in my life. It was almost
impossible to express my feelings in words since there are too
many of them. From the first moment that I came to be a part of
this program, I felt happy and comfortable. I was greeted very
well and gained the huge knowledge from both Thai and Japanese
professors. TAIST-Tokyo Tech provided not only an academic
program but source of intellectual inspiration. Team work,
friendship, sociality and many good things made me enjoy
learning. I really appreciate TAIST -Tokyo Tech program which
provided me a full Master‘s degree scholarship. Furthermore, I
would like to thank the Natural Rubber Focus Unit of MTEC for
providing research financial support, and thank all of researchers
and staff members in laboratory. Thank you to all of professors
for new knowledge and all of staff members for assistance.
Furthermore, I would like to thank my friends for encouragement

I believe that a good graduate program is an essential step
for realizing my professional ambition for becoming a good
engineer and I also believe that this TAIST-Tokyo Tech program
is ideal scholarship program for anyone who desires to improve
their skill in engineering. After I graduated from Srinakharinwirot
University, I joined TAIST-Tokyo Tech program. All of staffs in
this program are very friendly and enthusiastic to support the
student. In classroom, foreign institution lecturers provided not
only knowledge in engineering but also a world class background,
expertise and experience, academic instruction and research
advice. Researchers from NTSDA are willing to support, advice,
give guideline and recommendation.
At last, I am especially grateful to TAIST-Tokyo Tech
program under the National Science and Technology
Development Agency (NSTDA), Tokyo Institute of Technology
(Tokyo Tech), and Kasetsart University which provided a
scholarship for my master‘s degree. I am very thankful to all of
staff in TAIST-Tokyo Tech program for their kind support. I
would also like to thank Mr. Seksan Papong and all staff in LCA
laboratory for their kind and continuing support, guidance and
suggestion.
