HENDRICKS REGIONAL HEALTH CHRONICLES | VOL. 3 - ISSUE 32 | HENDRICKS.ORG On September 27, HRH honored associates who are observing significant work anniversaries in 2017. The Associate Recognition dinner provided an opportunity to say thank you to a wonderful group that has devoted many years of service to this organization. On the night of the dinner, attendees also took the opportunity to recognize not one, but two winners of the Extraordinary Effort Award. This award is presented annually to an HRH associate that embodies an outstanding spirit to go above and beyond the call of duty. This year, the efforts of two of our associates were too exceptional to overlook. EXTRAORDINARY EFFORTS CELEBRATED Brandee Wornhoff, MSN, RN, CNS, BC, has been a presence at HRH for 20 years. Fellow associates say she truly embodies The Hendricks Way as her work has touched almost every department in some form or aspect. Brandee has committed herself to teaching, coaching and mentoring Clinical Nurse Specialists. She says, “We have a unique contribution to healthcare. We work to help patients receive the best possible care and have the best possible outcome.” This dedication is also evident in the number of committees and projects Brandee participates in at HRH. She is a core member of the team working on the design and implementation of HRH’s new electronic medical record; she plays a key role in HRH’s application for Baldrige status; and she helped orchestrate the 2016 Salute to Nurses day-long celebration, just to name a few. Brandee’s fellow associates describe her as: “Passionate patient advocate” “Always focused on the work of evidence -based practices” “Dedicated to quality patient care and HRH” “Through her instruction, she demonstrates knowledge, strong patient and family advocacy, and exceptional critical thinking skills.” Brandee says “I am incredibly humbled to have been selected for this award, and so thankful to be sharing the honor with my friend and colleague, Brittany Waggoner. The significance of the story behind the award combined with the symbolism of time and tradition, leaves me with an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I was certainly surprised and will cherish the moment shared with members of my immediate and HRH family.” HRH President and CEO Kevin Speer says Brandee tirelessly gives more than she receives. “As a dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist, Brandee’s commitment and passion to patient care motivate her to educate, coach and mentor nurses to be the best they can be. Brandee has served countless lives through the nurses she has inspired.” Brittany Waggoner, RN, CNS, has been with HRH for ten years. As one of our esteemed Patient Experience Champions, she played a key role in the development of The Hendricks Way and leads by example in how she incorporates our values into her daily work. HRH President and CEO Kevin Speer says Brittany is dedicated to building positive relationships throughout the entire organization. “Brittany’s role as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) gives her the opportunity to stay engaged with our patients, their caregivers, as well as clinical professionals in many HRH departments. She has used this opportunity to become a trusted team member and leader, always ready and willing to serve our patients.” As a CNS, Brittany has been instrumental in ensuring HRH is moving forward with best practices and process change in a planned and efficient manner. She helped enact multiple changes that have improved patient safety and quality care including a standardized process for patients who hemorrhage after delivery; standardizing HRH’s use of Pitocin, a synthetic hormone administered to induce contractions; and preparation for pediatric emergencies in the Emergency Department. In addition, Brittany is in the LEAN practitioner program for HRH. Her fellow associates describe her as: “A go-to-person at HRH” “A passionate advocate for patients and their families” “Always willing to improve processes and best practices at HRH” “Goes the extra mile to ensure HRH offers the best care possible” Brittany says receiving the 2017 Extraordinary Effort Award with her fellow CNS and mentor was truly an honor. “I don’t think there is anything extraordinary about what I do at HRH; it’s the people who surround me that make my work extraordinary! I felt that I should be honoring the people, like my friend and colleague Brandee Wornhoff , who have contributed to my success. I’m so blessed to have had the opportunities that I have had here at HRH.”

UPCOMING EVENTS

Thank you to everyone who made the 7th Annual Bra Art Auction a success! Organizers say they sold 25 percent more tickets from the previous year and three bras sold for more than $600 – including one that was purchased at a price of $1000! This year’s event benefited the American Cancer Society, I.W.I.N. and the Hendricks Regional Health Foundation.

HRH is active in the fight against breast cancer and played a big role again this year in Hendricks County for the 2017 American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events. Hundreds of men, women and children participated in this walk to support breast cancer victims and survivors, and to raise money to find a cure.
