ExxonMobil invests in these local workforce development partnership programs, among others… NORTH BATON ROUGE INDUSTRIAL TRAINING INITIATIVE—Provides free technical training in jobs that are among the most in demand in the industrial sector

A collaborative effort between contracting partners, Baton Rouge Community College, and the local community, the program engages area residents in a fast-tracked classroom setting, provides hands-on experience in pipefitting, welding, or electrical, and helps graduates secure employment.

JUMP START—Offers career courses and workplace experience to high school students to earn industry credentials

Supported through a partnership of business and industry, the Louisiana Department of Education and the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the program provides training for specific job skills to prepare graduates to secure high-wage jobs and attend a technical or community college.

HOPE MINISTRIES HOPE WORKS—Helps participants achieve and maintain employment, housing, and financial and family stability

Assistance with overcoming barriers to work such as transportation, family or childcare issues, substance abuse, mental health issues and simple logistics is the focus of the program. HOPE’s mission is to help employers and employees understand the relationship between behavioral and social skills, workplace attitudes, job retention and advancement.

BAKER WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM—Trains participants at a fast pace to prepare them for long-term, stable careers in skilled trades

Backed by a $10K grant from ExxonMobil and training provided by an ExxonMobil retiree after a 30-year career, more than 50 years of millwright and machinist experience, and numerous industry credentials, the program certifies students in pipefitting, millwright and electrical skills. Through 2015, 154 students completed the program, and over 85 Baker High School students were enrolled in welding classes.

ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCEExxonMobil

ENHANCING AND PRESERVING OUR ENVIRONMENT IS ESSENTIAL TO GOOD CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP. At our Baton Rouge facilities, we strive to improve our performance with the focus on “Protecting Tomorrow. Today.” The ExxonMobil environmental team works to meet thousands of regulations annually—about 1,200 separate requirements just for air quality—and our facilities undergo frequent regulatory inspections. In 2015, we focused on expanding wildlife habitats in our neighborhoods, improving the water quality in the Mississippi River and conserving precious water resources.

BIOX BASIN REPLACEMENT Treating wastewater through biological oxidation (BIOX) has cut nitrate emissions by 50 percent and is a flagship for the industry. Although denitrification was not required by regulation, ExxonMobil made the environmentally responsible choice for the Refinery and the Mississippi River to improve water quality.

Overall emissions since 1990 have been REDUCED at both the Refinery

and the Chemical Plant Complex:

76% in volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions

75% percent in sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions

38% percent in nitrogen oxides (NOX) emissions

TAIL GAS CLEANUP UNIT (TGCU) Decreases emissions and enables consistent achievement of national ambient air quality standards. It helps ExxonMobil to lower emission rates while continuing to process crude and other raw materials with minimal environmental impact. TGCU operates within federal and state emission requirements.

Projects such as the BIOX Basin Replacement show the company’s dedication to improving the overall environmental well-being of our area and protecting the Mississippi River, one of the major assets of our state. IMPROVING AIR QUALITY Largely due to the work of the industry Ozone Task Force and Baton Rouge Clean Air Coalition, in which ExxonMobil takes a leadership role, the Baton Rouge area is within one part per billion of meeting the new, lower Ozone standards. The voluntary curtailing of activities on Ozone Action Days and the leak detection and repair program to reduce fugitive emissions has helped with attainment.

* Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard was revised by the EPA in 2015 to 70 parts per billion

REDUCING GROUNDWATER

USAGE We built our clarified river water unit in 1971; it has been upgraded several times to treat even more

Mississippi River water. More than half of the water we use comes from the

Mississippi. Six cooling towers have been converted from groundwater to river water

over the last several years. And we have invested nearly $5 million to further

reduce usage, saving about 4.5 million gallons/day of groundwater over the past decade, primarily in the

2,000-ft. aquifer.

WILDLIFE HABITAT EFFORTS ExxonMobil began the conservation effort about 30 years ago, and today the volunteer wildlife team educates employees and the community and manages 493 acres for habitats that include grasslands, forests, wetlands and swamps.

Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills, in particular, are critical to ensuring that today’s students are prepared for tomorrow’s job opportunities. ExxonMobil strategically invests in education initiatives that focus on three key areas: training teachers, encouraging students to pursue higher-level courses and increasing college readiness in high school graduates. In 2015, we collaborated with educational partners like Teach For America, City Year, Foundation for East Baton Rouge School System, New Schools for Baton Rouge, Volunteers in Public Schools, Baton Rouge Youth Coalition … and more!

INVOLVEMENT IMPROVES THE OUTLOOK FOR OUR NEIGHBORS AND COMMUNITY. ExxonMobil assists with local events and contributes to civic and social causes that benefit area citizens, their health and the environment. Our employees actively support community endeavors by volunteering their time, talents and funds to many diverse organizations and events such as Habitat for Humanity, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, the United Way Day of Action, Earth Day and dozens of others. In 2015 alone, our employees and retirees logged volunteer hours equivalent to 1,667 days—or 4.5 years of service!

With a $13 million grant from ExxonMobil, the National Math and Science Initiative’s (NMSI) partnership with Louisiana schools is growing substantially. NMSI’s College Readiness Program supports teachers and helps more Louisiana students succeed in Advanced Placement (AP) math, science and English courses, expanding access to traditionally underrepresented student populations. AP course subjects will include calculus, computer science, statistics, English literature, English language, biology, chemistry, environmental science and physics.

ABOUT THE COVER Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day is an annual event that brings female ExxonMobil engineers and girls in 6th through 11th grade from area schools together for a lively competition to stimulate innovative skills and submerse the students in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts.

ENHANCING AND PRESERVING OUR ENVIRONMENT IS ESSENTIAL TO GOOD CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP. At our Baton Rouge facilities, we strive to improve our performance with the focus on “Protecting Tomorrow. Today.” The ExxonMobil environmental team works to meet thousands of regulations annually—about 1,200 separate requirements just for air quality—and our facilities undergo frequent regulatory inspections. In 2015, we focused on expanding wildlife habitats in our neighborhoods, improving the water quality in the Mississippi River and conserving precious water resources.

BIOX BASIN REPLACEMENT Treating wastewater through biological oxidation (BIOX) has cut nitrate emissions by 50 percent and is a flagship for the industry. Although denitrification was not required by regulation, ExxonMobil made the environmentally responsible choice for the Refinery and the Mississippi River to improve water quality.

TAIL GAS CLEANUP UNIT (TGCU) Decreases emissions and enables consistent achievement of national ambient air quality standards. It helps ExxonMobil to lower emission rates while continuing to process crude and other raw materials with minimal environmental impact. TGCU operates within federal and state emission requirements.

Projects such as the BIOX Basin Replacement show the company’s dedication to improving the overall environmental well-being of our area and protecting the Mississippi River, one of the major assets of our state. IMPROVING AIR QUALITY Largely due to the work of the industry Ozone Task Force and Baton Rouge Clean Air Coalition, in which ExxonMobil takes a leadership role, the Baton Rouge area is within one part per billion of meeting the new, lower Ozone standards. The voluntary curtailing of activities on Ozone Action Days and the leak detection and repair program to reduce fugitive emissions has helped with attainment.

REDUCING GROUNDWATER

USAGE We built our clarified river water unit in 1971; it has been upgraded several times to treat even more

Mississippi River water. More than half of the water we use comes from the

Mississippi. Six cooling towers have been converted from groundwater to river water

over the last several years. And we have invested nearly $5 million to further

reduce usage, saving about 4.5 million gallons/day of groundwater over the past decade, primarily in the

2,000-ft. aquifer.

WILDLIFE HABITAT EFFORTS ExxonMobil began the conservation effort about 30 years ago, and today the volunteer wildlife team educates employees and the community and manages 493 acres for habitats that include grasslands, forests, wetlands and swamps.

A collaborative effort between contracting partners, Baton Rouge Community College, and the local community, the program engages area residents in a fast-tracked classroom setting, provides hands-on experience in pipefitting, welding, or electrical, and helps graduates secure employment.

JUMP START—Offers career courses and workplace experience to high school students to earn industry credentials

Supported through a partnership of business and industry, the Louisiana Department of Education and the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the program provides training for specific job skills to prepare graduates to secure high-wage jobs and attend a technical or community college.

HOPE MINISTRIES HOPE WORKS—Helps participants achieve and maintain employment, housing, and financial and family stability

Assistance with overcoming barriers to work such as transportation, family or childcare issues, substance abuse, mental health issues and simple logistics is the focus of the program. HOPE’s mission is to help employers and employees understand the relationship between behavioral and social skills, workplace attitudes, job retention and advancement.

BAKER WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM—Trains participants at a fast pace to prepare them for long-term, stable careers in skilled trades

Backed by a $10K grant from ExxonMobil and training provided by an ExxonMobil retiree after a 30-year career, more than 50 years of millwright and machinist experience, and numerous industry credentials, the program certifies students in pipefitting, millwright and electrical skills. Through 2015, 154 students completed the program, and over 85 Baker High School students were enrolled in welding classes.

ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCEExxonMobil

ENHANCING AND PRESERVING OUR ENVIRONMENT IS ESSENTIAL TO GOOD CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP. At our Baton Rouge facilities, we strive to improve our performance with the focus on “Protecting Tomorrow. Today.” The ExxonMobil environmental team works to meet thousands of regulations annually—about 1,200 separate requirements just for air quality—and our facilities undergo frequent regulatory inspections. In 2015, we focused on expanding wildlife habitats in our neighborhoods, improving the water quality in the Mississippi River and conserving precious water resources.

BIOX BASIN REPLACEMENT Treating wastewater through biological oxidation (BIOX) has cut nitrate emissions by 50 percent and is a flagship for the industry. Although denitrification was not required by regulation, ExxonMobil made the environmentally responsible choice for the Refinery and the Mississippi River to improve water quality.

TAIL GAS CLEANUP UNIT (TGCU) Decreases emissions and enables consistent achievement of national ambient air quality standards. It helps ExxonMobil to lower emission rates while continuing to process crude and other raw materials with minimal environmental impact. TGCU operates within federal and state emission requirements.

Projects such as the BIOX Basin Replacement show the company’s dedication to improving the overall environmental well-being of our area and protecting the Mississippi River, one of the major assets of our state. IMPROVING AIR QUALITY Largely due to the work of the industry Ozone Task Force and Baton Rouge Clean Air Coalition, in which ExxonMobil takes a leadership role, the Baton Rouge area is within one part per billion of meeting the new, lower Ozone standards. The voluntary curtailing of activities on Ozone Action Days and the leak detection and repair program to reduce fugitive emissions has helped with attainment.

REDUCING GROUNDWATER

USAGE We built our clarified river water unit in 1971; it has been upgraded several times to treat even more

Mississippi River water. More than half of the water we use comes from the

Mississippi. Six cooling towers have been converted from groundwater to river water

over the last several years. And we have invested nearly $5 million to further

reduce usage, saving about 4.5 million gallons/day of groundwater over the past decade, primarily in the

2,000-ft. aquifer.

WILDLIFE HABITAT EFFORTS ExxonMobil began the conservation effort about 30 years ago, and today the volunteer wildlife team educates employees and the community and manages 493 acres for habitats that include grasslands, forests, wetlands and swamps.
