It uses the same Spectra X-film and vinyl window as found in the Wave SE and Freeride, ensuring durability and years of service. Narrow luff tube to take on minimal water. Very well engineered with features such as industrial tack pulley that can be changed to single eyelet if required, and high quality foot beading that extends all way to clew. Standard padded tack fairing. No strap on to hold rolled sail in place – have to use tack strap instead. Batten key built into foot and easily available. Endo batten system to make sail symmetrical on both tacks. Tall narrow sail visually – due to relatively short boom, concave cut of leech and high angle of top batten. Long leech battens in the four top panels. Rigging is standard as in most cammed sails, sheathing the mast above the cams and tensioning the downhaul only slightly before applying outhaul. Then pop the cams on before applying the rest of the downhaul. The sail was tested with an RDM mast although SDM are compatible as well – just change the cam. The Infinity has masses of shape in its draught, which extends from the foot of the sail right up to the third batten. There is minimal tuning range in the downhaul but masses on the outhaul, helping to reduce the depth of the draft, albeit a long way off making it go shallow even on maximum setting. We didn’t find the outhaul indicator strings a great deal of help – far better to do it by feel. Don’t forget the tack strap-needs to be tight to tension the foot of the sail. With such a pronounced camber it is no surprise the Infiniy feels very solid and positive in the hands, always pulling and never going neutral or light in the hands. The power is very balanced and the centre of effort low and forwards, translating the energy smoothly into forward momentum. There is plenty of useable feedback provided and the new Dacron luff panel provides that extra bit of give so that the sail can be pumped effectively onto the plane. The sail has quite a large area under the boom making it very easy to close the slot. The sail feels its size, but making the most of every bit of energy in the wind. It is quite versatile in the stance you can adopt, happily cruising around when part- nered with a wide bodied board, or locked into a more powerful stance. It isn’t the most efficient pointing upwind – it is more of a cruising sail than a racing thoroughbred. The power delivery can be tuned greatly on the outhaul and the stability of the foil is never in doubt, remaining balanced in the hands even in severly overpowered conditions – just be prepared to crank on that outhaul! In transition, it becomes a bit of a handful, the deep solid camber requiring significant input from the rider for a smooth exit. The camber can increase the difficulty of tacks and waterstarts, be prepared to put in that extra bit of energy yourself. Suitability: Ideal for light wind cruising on modern widestyle board and can be partnered with more efficient freerace hulls at a push when the wind increases. + Superb stability and wind range. - Heavy and cumbersome in transition; requires good technique in the waterstart. The Infinity is a beautifully engineered foil that has masses of range and plenty of performance; and you can be safe in the knowledge that it will last with the same construction technology of Ezzy’s wave sail! What is The OTC?CONCEPTThe OTC is a unique windsurfing centre offering the first real opportunity for you to compare the boards and sails from each major brand for yourself … and all in the relaxed atmosphere of a holiday environment. It was the brainchild of Tris Best, who, acknowledging the privileged position he was in whilst testing all the latest windsurfing equipment for magazines, wanted to extend the same opportunity to a wider audience.

EQUIPMENTThe centre stocks the very latest equipment from all the major board and sail manufacturers, including:

Boards: Exocet, F2, Fanatic, Goya, JP Australia, Mistral, Naish, RRD, Starboard, Tabou, WitchcraftSails: Ezzy, Gaastra, Naish, Neil Pryde, North Sails, Severne, Simmer, Tushingham

From wave to freestyle and crossover, into the expansive realms of freeride, almost every discipline and equipment category is represented, catering for all rider styles and abilities.

LOCATIONThe centre is situated in the town of El Médano on the island of Tenerife just ten minutes transfer from Reina Sofia Airport in the south. With an average air temperature of 22 degrees Celsius, the OTC is open throughout the year, and benefits from three fantastic windsurfing areas to cater for every windsurfing ability and preference.

South Bay is a true windsurfer’s playground ideal for intermediates and above, providing a large bump-and-jump sailing area with the added benefit of having a safe, enclosed sandy beach.

The Harbour Wall is easily accessible from the centre, and offers a clean smooth face at the right tide state. A good introduction to wave riding for the uninitiated, it is a great deal of fun to ride, with the added security of a safe exit channel within easy reach at all times.

Cabezo is the northern most bay of the town, which, with its typical European cross-onshore conditions provides the ideal test arena for wave and crossover equipment. Hosting World Tour events in the past, the sailing standard in the bay is awe-inspiring and is sure to captivate even the non-windsurfer’s imagination.

THE CENTREContained in a modern building directly on the beachfront of South Bay, the centre caters for a limited number of clients each week, ensuring every opportunity to try the desired kit.

WIND STATISTICSBoasting over 250 days of planing conditions (force four and above) a year, El Médano is Tenerife’s primary windsurfing location and is well exposed to the influence of the Atlantic, offering some of the most consistent conditions found in the Canarian archipelago.

And again I can’t recommend the OTC enough. While I was there I tried about 8 boards and quite a lot of sails. The range of kit and the lads who run the place are just brilliant. Ken Morton
