Summary

This report is in response to the information provided at SAFE 2015 on the hanging harness test that JSF conducted on five F-35 Pilots.

Omni has conducted additional in house testing to confirm the F-35 Cup and Male Garment pose no comfort issues when properly worn.

One out of the 5 pilots experienced a lot of discomfort in hanging harness, however it has come to our attention that JSF conducted these test with the Legacy Cup and Legacy Male Garment (the wrong equipment for the F-35 Harness).

This Supplemental report has been prepared with more detail on the reasons the IMCR-2-2 Cup and current rev of the MG-1/2 Garment were designed and show successful testing with the F-35 Harness.

At SAFE 2015, Omni provided LT Lippert Navy-JSF with the New (2013) F-35 Cup, Hose and F-35 Male Garment to test.

On December 30, 2015 Omni shipped a second F-35 Male Cup and F-35 Male Garment to Colvin James at JSF for evaluation and testing. JSF received the shipment on December 31, 2015.

These products along with AMXDmax training document, updated user manuals and training videos have been available on Omni www.AMXDmax.com website since 2013. Omni continues to update information whenever we receive feedback from the user group. The F-35 Cup is in use with both the standard hose and the new TSC through Suit Connector for Immersion Suits and Chem. Bio protective ensembles.

The F-35 IMCR-2-2 Male Cup and current rev of the MG-1/2 Garment were part of Omni’s USAF Safe To Fly submission to HSD AFLCMC/WNU in 2013 which resulted in a Safe To Fly in February 2014. The Legacy Cup has a stiffener in it to help hold it in place with the Legacy Harness configuration (the F-35 Harness has a center Buckle that rests on the cup so it was modified to remove the stiffener and the hose was moved to bottom of Cup). The Legacy Male Garment’s Cup Pouch was completely attached along the inseam, which was not an issue with the Legacy Harness. While this worked well with the Legacy Harness the F-35 Harness cinches in closer to the groan and can pull on the cup Alignment Flaps causing discomfort in a hanging harness situation (test). So the Male Garment was modified with a detached Cup Pouch allowing the F-35 Lead Strap to slide under the Cup Flap without pulling on it in a hanging harness position.

Verification Test for F-35 Hanging Harness comfort after egress.

Tested with IMCR-2-2 F-35 Male Cup with MG-2-R F-35 Male Garment.

1. No Cup Comfort Base Line test 2. IMCR-2-2 Cup with alignment flaps on.

A. Using Standard Removable hose B. TSC (Through Suit Connector option) internal Hose

3. IMCR-2-2 Cup with alignment flaps removed. A. Using Standard Removable hose B. TSC (Through Suit Connector option) internal Hose

Designed for the F-35 Harness

The alignment flaps were designed as an option for each individual pilot to evaluate the comfort of cup during initial training and practice before ever flying with the system. Some Pilots are more comfortable with flaps on and some are more comfortable with flaps off. The F-35 harness leg straps cinch more closely in the groin than the legacy harness. This makes properly locating the Harness leg straps either beside or under the Cup Flaps or without flaps an important step for the F-35 pilot’s comfort in an emergency egress situation. To allow the Harness leg straps to cinch in tight without trapping the Cup Flaps the F-35 Male Garment version has a detached Cup Pouch.

Test Subjects:

Three Test Subjects ages from 24 years, 43 and 58 years old participated in the multiple (3 each) of the 5 tests listed above. Full summer flight suit with G-Suit and survival vest where donned providing minimum aircrew ensemble configuration (least amount of padding). Separate testing was performed on all aircrew ensemble configurations, immersion suit, CBRN and Cold weather gear with both Standard Harness and TSC option. Ensemble model numbers used for testing:

Hanging Harness Test Set Up

The Harness was attached to metal frame with 31 inch bungee cords to simulate the impact of Chute opening during man-seat separation. A set of roll away stairs where used for subject to get into harness. Once securely fitted in harness in while seated in F-35 seat position the rolling stairs were pulled away as they are in man-seat separation test. Resulting in subject suspended above the floor in the hanging harness.

Male Cup with Removable Hose (IMCR-2-2) F-35 Cup

The IMCR-2-2 Cup with Removable Hose (F-35 Cup) was specifically designed for the F-35 Harness with the center-point buckle. The cup is ½” slimmer, more flexible without any rigid inside support. This allows the cup to collapse as if the pilot was wearing nothing. The Cup is designed with Alignment Flaps that can be removed depending on each individual pilot’s preference. Future supplies can be ordered without the Flaps.

Each Test Subject performed Hanging Harness test with each variant of the Cup with Flaps and Without Flaps.

The IMCR-2-2 F-35 Cup flexible and collapsible for significantly improved comfort.

Hanging Harness testing with 3 test subject after harness position training resulted in no issues (no difference compared to no Cup) using the F-35 Cup and Male Garment.

The zipper closes tight against the hose Through Suit Connector provides Quick maintaining full flame protection. Disconnect external hose for Immersion

and CBRN suits maintaining full aircrew protection.

For Reference: The Legacy cup can be used with the F-35 Harness; however it has a rigid inner support making it ½” deeper. This may press on the center-point buckle resulting in a comfort issue. The legacy cup was tested and approved for use with the Legacy harness. The Legacy Harness variant of the Male Cup - IMC-2-2 Cup with Built in Hose was tested and approved for use with the Legacy harness. For reference: The Legacy Male Garment Cup pouch is completely attached to the Boxer Brief, as the Legacy Harness legs straps do not cinch into the groin as far as the F-35 harness straps.

Conclusion:

The Male Cup with removable Hose (IMCR-2-2) used with the F-35 version of the Male Garment (MG-1or 2-R) provides a comfortable integration with the F-35 Harness that is comparable to wearing no Cup at all. The F-35 Male Cup and Male Garment combined with aircrew training on Harness leg strap placement Mitigates any comfort issues that would arise from using the Legacy Male Cup and Male Garment with the F-35 Harness.

Tests showed that the AMXDmax Male Cup system presented no comfort issues, regardless of whether the Alignment Flaps where attached or removed. This feature was developed and tested as an option as every individual pilot’s anatomy is different and they need to train on the Harness Positioning, to insure complete comfort during normal mission profile anis During normal flight and after egress.

Using the IMCR-2-2 with the standard hose through the flight suit zipper or with the internal hose connected to the TSC (Through Suit Connector) Option in conjunction with the F-35 Male Garment, both resulted in the same comfort rating as no cup at all.

Recommendation for F-35 pilots to use the IMCR-2-2 Cup and MG-1or 2-R Male Garment for either the standard hose or the TSC option.
