HELP NEEDED DURING FAIR WEEK

We need 4-H youth and adult volunteers for the following:

Enter Exhibits Sunday, July 14 from 11:00am to 4:30pm for 4-H members only. General public begins at 12:00. Volunteers are needed to work the entry tag tables, help take in and arrange exhibits. Additional Entry day for 4-H members who have pre-registered only on Saturday, July 13 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Indoor Exhibit Judging will take place on Monday, July 16 at 9:00am. Help will be needed to place ribbons on items. Lunch will be available for judges and volunteers following judging.

Building watchers are needed for the 4-H exhibit area Tuesday through Saturday during fair week from 4:00 to 9:00pm. Call the office or see Jody during exhibit entry to schedule a time for individuals, clubs, or families to oversee the 4-H area. This includes watering the flowers, cleaning the corn area, picking up trash, etc.

4-H members, this is also a great opportunity to talk to

fair patrons about your exhibits, which will give you a communication for your project record.

Badges and parking passes (for the entire week) will be

available for indoor volunteers, if requested.

Youth Day—4-H youth volunteers are needed for tours of the barn during Youth Day on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is a great opportunity to earn communications for your livestock projects. We also need help in the building with our indoor activities.

Take out exhibits and pick up premium checks on Sunday, July 21 from 1:00 to 3:00pm. Help is always appreciated to take down the 4-H exhibits beginning at 11:00 a.m.

These are great opportunities to earn community service hours! To assist with any of the above, please call 301-724-3320 or email [email protected] by July 12.

MDA HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

The Maryland Department of Agriculture's (MDA), Animal Health Program strives to safeguard Maryland's animal industries at our Fairs and Shows. The MDA’s Animal Health Requirements for 2019 Exhibitions are available on the MDA website under Animal Health News: https://mda.maryland.gov/animalHealth/Pages/default.aspx Read over the MDA regulations for this fair season to see what you need to complete for your fair animals. Just as last year, be sure to ask your vet prior to their visit to be sure they have the carbon copy CVI papers with them when they arrive. MDA does not let our office have them anymore. Also beef and swine exhibitors need to be sure they have an RFID tag in the animal's ear before the vet comes for the health check since it is included on the CVI paperwork. Visit: https://mda.maryland.gov/AnimalHealth/Documents/Fair%
