Time of day, & Time of year: February 2009

Equipment: Canon EOS 1DS MKIIAthlete: Johan Oloffsson

    LOCATION_

I was on a photo shoot for Snowboarder

Magazine and Standard Films at Northern

Escape Heli in Terrace British Columbia.

    INSPIRATION _

The legend Johan Oloffsson was back

shredding the big mountains after a long hiatus.

    That was enough.

    SHOT SETUP TIME_

Set up time was minimal, we photographed

any thing that we figured would work. It is very

easy when you have a helicopter and Johan at

    your disposal.

    LOCATION_

Jackson Hole, Wyoming is known for many things,

including its abundance of adventure athletes. As a

professional photographer, if you cant find an athletewilling to get some exposure in Jackson, you are doing

something wrong. This part of the Snake River is a well

known spot for adventure seekers, because of its close

proximity to Jackson Hole and the quality of rapids.

    INSPIRATION _

There are many amazing things that a professional

kayaker can do in the water that would make a killer

photo, but for me a solid barrel roll is one of the best.

If you can capture it right, you can manage to get the

athlete, the kayak and the water all working in unison to

    pull the move off.

    SHOT SETUP TIME_

I spent most of the morning shooting from a large raft

that was following the kayakers. I asked this athlete to

perform a series of Barrel Rolls and this was the best

    shot of the lot.

MATTHEWWATKINSON LOCATION_We were on our way to shoot another aspect in

local backcountry when we saw this skier begi

    INSPIRATION _

Its really not that hard to get a good capture am

such inspiring scenery. Even so, cornflower blu

skies are just not that common in this part of th

world and there was a palpable sense that this w

day to get things done. My original objective w

CARDRONA SPRING BOOTERCARDRONA, NEW ZEALAND TIMPIERCLOCATION_Skyline ridge run at Cardrona. Bare Barren ridge with gigantic80 foot tombstone table jump.

    INSPIRATION _

The spring of 2007 saw an unusual amount of large

snowfalls that opened up endless opportunities at Cardrona.

John Melville from Development Snowparks approached

Will Jackways with the idea of building a large hip & table

for a shoot. This mammoth feature was the result! John

built the feature entirely by himself and it was incredible.

Although it took a few weeks to get the right weather and

crew together, the final shoot was amazing. Will worked his

way along the hip (hipping to the other side of the table that

you cant see ) and then eventually sent it straight over the

table. Full speed sled tow in, 80 foot of deck, and plenty of

hang time. One of the biggest back 3s I have ever seen.

    SHOT SETUP TIME_

I walked around a variety of angles to shoot this jump as it

was so large, there were many variables to consider. Took

around half an hour to decide where to shoot, and then two

afternoon jump sessions over a few weeks.

    THE PHOTOGRAPHERS

    BLUE SUNDAY_

    MATTHEW WATKINSON

I became interested in ski photography afterseeing the work of some friends, and realizingthat good shots were not just for the pros. After

losing my Canon G9 on a ski tour of Mt. Fuji lastyear, I decided to upgrade to a DSLR, which madeshooting a lot more interesting. As a recent arrival

to both skiing and photography, its fun to record

my progress and that of my friends in both areas.
