The club is believed to have been formed in 1892 as John Smith’s FC. It wasn’t until 1923 that the Tadcaster Albion name was adopted. In the early years the club played in the local York League. In 1948 Albion won the York League. They continued competing in the York League during the 1950’s & 60’s.

Tadcaster Albion, in the early days, played home games on the site of the cricket ground on Station Road, before moving to the Ings ground, near to where the present Samuel Smith Brewery Packaging Block now stands. Changing facilities were in the town, at the rear of the Falcon Public House on Chapel Street, and it was a common Saturday afternoon sight to see nets, corner flags, buckets, oranges, players and officials trekking through the town.

Down the years the club has played in several leagues. In early times, Bark-ston Ash and later still the Yorkshire and Northern Counties East Leagues.

Football continued on the Ings ground until 1960, when the club moved 100 yards up river to its present home at the Park.

In 1973 the club joined the Yorkshire League Division 3 and were promoted in 1975 & 1977 to reach Division 1, relegation was to follow in 1979 & 1980.

In 1982-83 they became a founding member of the Northern Counties East League, originally in the NCEL Division Two North before league reorganisations led them to Division One in 1991. They rarely finish in the top half of the league in the 1990’s and finished bottom in 2001-2 & 2003-4.

At the start of 2004-5, Jim Collis became manager and at this point fortunes on the

pitch started to improve dramatically. In his first season, Albion finished 5th in the league, the following year a 3rd place finish meant promotion was missed by one point.

Jimmy Reid took over as manager in 2006, but his time was blighted by off the field problems. An attempted hostile takeover by dissident committee members took a massive amount of money to fight. Then in Novem-ber 2007, an attempted arson attack on the clubhouse caused a lot of damage.

Paul Marshall took over at the start of 2008-9, in his first season he played mostly local players and the team struggled and finished 17th. In 2009-10, with an influx of a few new key players, Albion won the NCEL Division One title.

In 2010, Rob Northfield, took over as Chairman of Tadcaster Albion (2010) Ltd, and the club became a company limited by guarantee.

Albion finished fourth in their first season in the NCEL Premier Division and won the NCEL President’s Cup, beating Farsley AFC 5-1 in the final. That was followed by an 8th place finish and last season they finished 6th.

Rob Northfield resigned a few days before the start of this season and i2i Sports Ltd agreed to take effective control of the club and company, with Matthew Gore becoming the new Chairman. In i2i’s first season in charge, the club narrowly missed out on promotion having gone on a 25-game unbeaten run which led to them being named Robbie Savage’s “non-league team of the day” on Radio Five Live.

Welcome to today’s opponents Oldham Athletic U21s who have travelled here for our fourth pre-season friendly of the season. Oldham have some exceptional players in their youth ranks, so we’re expecting a tough game.

We visited Oldham Athletic last season to meet with the club’s Manager Lee Johnson, the Head of Youth Tony Philliskirk and the Head of Coaching Simon Cooper. We were given a tour of the training ground and invited to observe an academy coaching session, which was both educational and inspirational. We’ve known Simon

for a number of years, and we’re very grateful for the part he played in arranging this pre-season friendly. Hopefully we can continue this relationship for many years to come.

A big thank you to everyone who came to the FC Halifax Town and York City games. It’s been a great opportunity for our new players to bed into the squad. We thought the players looked very smart in the new home kit. We also had some great feedback about the photography and video footage by David Lindsay, so thank you David!

Enjoy the match, and thanks again for your support. Up The Brewers!

KindersIs about introducing kids to football in safe environment & giving them the basic skills to allow them to progress into the U7 teams. They train on a Saturday morning at Riverside school, new players are always welcome, come down & give it a go !

With over 25 registered players the U9s section continues to go from strength to strength. In fact they have been so successful that the age group is split into two sections, Juniors & Colts, with both sections usually able to field two teams on a match day. Run by FA Licensed coaches and assisted by parents the emphasis is on developing and improving players in a safe and fun environment. The

Club HistoryOldham Athletic AFC

Club History

Pine Villa was formed in 1895 but on July 4, 1899 ceased to exist.

However, there were no tears because the name was changed and the birth of Oldham Athletic came about. Latics enjoyed suc-cess in the early years finishing runners-up in the First Division (the equivalent of today’s Pre-mier League) in 1914/15 having earlier reached the FA Cup semi final in 1913. They lost their top-flight status in 1923 and would not regain it for 68 years. In the intervening years, most was spend in Division Three North, Divisions Three and Four. The club’s three championship win-ning campaigns also came in this period in 1952/53 under the legendary George Hardwick, 1973/74 and 1990/91. There had been dark days when Lat-ics had to go cap in hand to the Football League to seek re-elec-tion after finishing in the bottom four in the basement division.

Latics have had a roller-coaster ride over the last twenty years, seeing action in the Premier-ship and the equivalent of the Championship before suffering relegation down to the current Coca-Cola League One.

They were founder members of the Premier League back in the 1992-93 season, and stayed in the top flight for three seasons - one campaign in the old First

Division, two in the Premier League.

They also enjoyed glory in both cup competitions (FA and League Cup). Indeed, they ap-peared in the 1990 Littlewoods Cup Final at Wembley, only to lose 1-0 to the late Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest, a game that even ‘Cloughy’ him-self said was an unfair result.

The FA Cup also brought dis-appointment for Oldham when they lost two semi-finals to Manchester United. Their 1990 appearance in the last four was their first foray to that stage since 1913, but they bowed out to Manchester United 2-1 in a replay after a thrilling 3-3 draw in the initial clash.

Latics appeared in the semi-fi-nals again in 1994, losing out 4-1 in a Maine Road replay fol-lowing a 1-1 draw at Wembley.

More recently, Latics fell on hard times and were forced to go into administration in the summer of 2003, but some much-needed financial stability was provided when three American-based businessmen - Simon Blitz, Simon Corney and Danny Gazal - purchased the club the follow-ing November.
