Prince: Who asked the question about “When Doves Cry?”
Red Rose204: That be me! I first heard your song when I was watching the 1996 movie, Romeo + Juliet. I loved the lyrics and can relate.
Prince: That’s cool:) I had written it for my movie Purple Rain. "When Doves Cry" is symbolic, you know? When somebody dreams of a dove crying, it means that their father is going to die. In "Purple Rain," the kid's father kills himself, hence the title of my song. I myself can relate to the song.
Red Rose204: Yeah, didn’t your parents get divorced as a kid? They must have really slammed your ego hard, I hear it in your music, the moods like depressed, self-incriminating, and enamored .
Prince: I wondered if I was becoming like them. The lyrics explain…my father is "demanding" and my mom is "never satisfied.“ Not much else I can say if you got the song and related to it.
Red Rose204: Did you seriously play every instrument in “When Doves Cry?” I’ve been playing piano since I was 6 and I can’t even play “Mary had a Little Lamb.”
Prince: Yeah I did play everything. I added the keyboard in the song for a different effect, and you can here the drum machine playing.
Red Rose204: It’s a nice steady medium-fast beat. I really love it. What album is this song found in? I’m looking to download more music.
