Valley CLEAN!!

An update to the FTTH status was sent out last week. Completion of the Link Africa Open Access Fibre Network is almost there. Link Africa started trenching and installing their fibre in April 2016, and although we have had 5 months of Link Africa workers all over Vorna Valley, bringing along some issues, we are sure that most of us are happy to finally have FTTH in our area.

If issues regarding pavements etc are still not resolved, Link Africa are busy going to each street to finish off their work. Complaints can be emailed to [email protected]. Thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding.

More ISP’s will be coming on board in the next month or two so we suggest that you do your homework before signing up with an ISP.

To compare pricing between ADSL and the new fibre offering you will have to take into account your Telkom line rental charges in addition to what you’re currently paying MWEB for internet service. As an example:

For a 10Mbps uncapped ADSL account you will be paying:• R425 ADSL line fee to Telkom• R189 line rental for the basic Telkom landline and number• R499 ISP fee for a 10Mbps uncapped account from MWEBFor a total of R1113 per month

On the new fibre network you can get a 10Mbps uncapped line starting at R770 currently which includes the line rental i.e. no additional fees like on Telkom ADSL. If you would like to add a landline number to replace your Telkom landline number you can do that with a VoIP offering that starts at R85/month. Call rates on VoIP are also much cheaper on the VoIP service as well, for example:

Telkom peak per minute landline to landline rate is 63c/minute vs. 26c/minute on Cool VoIPTelkom peak per minute landline to cellphone rate is R1.05/minute vs. 60c/minute on Cool VoIP

International rates are dependent on destination however but VoIP is cheaper here as well.

I should also mention that you can get cheaper (but faster) fibre accounts if you choose to go the capped account route and generally the fibre based products are cheaper and much higher performance than ADSL.

Recycling in Vorna ValleyWe urge all residents in Vorna Valley to join the Recycling Project, “Separation @ Source” run by Pikitup. Let us try and double the recycling collected in our area, and the only way to do that is for everyone to tell their neighbours about it and get them involved as well. Please contact [email protected] to be added to the collection list with your full names, full street address, email address and cell number so that Pikitup can deliver the starter packs to your doorstep. As for Complexes, we know it wont be easy, but we have spoken to Pikitup and we suggest that one person in each complex contacts us on [email protected] or on whatsap 082 460 8662 so that we can see if we can get people living in complexes involved as well. What we suggest is to send out a notice by hand to each unit in the complex explaining how recycling (S@S) works. The VVRA will draw up a “notice” that can be used by all complexes. If you have any suggestions to encourage recycling in

complexes, please feel free to email us. Pikitup will give Recycling (S@S) starter packs to each unit which can be sent to the units with this notice.BULKY WASTE SERVICEIn 2015 we launched the new Bulky Waste Service to remove bulky household waste once a month, free of charge. The aim of this service is to divert recyclable waste away from our landfill sites to allow the landfill sites an extended lifespan.Residents who want to dispose bulky waste from their households such as old mattresses, furniture and appliances are urged to contact their nearest Pikitup depots or use the nearest garden sites in their proximity. You can email your list of Bulky Waste to: [email protected]
