Facility Description:

The Sequoyah Middle School campus consists of one main school building located at 3456 Aztec Road Doraville, Georgia. The original campus was constructed in 1965 and additions to the main school building were constructed in 1966 and 1967. In addition to the main school building, the campus contains storage buildings, dugouts, baseball field, football field, track, and tennis courts. This report contains condition and adequacy data collected during the 2010/2011 Facility Condition Assessment (FCA). The detailed condition and deficiency statements are contained in this report for each building and other facilities on the campus.

Facility Description:

The Sequoyah Middle School main building is a one-story building located at 3456 Aztec Road Doraville, Georgia. Originally built in 1965, there have been two additions in 1966 and 1967. Renovations were done in 2009 and 2010, and additional renovations for new science labs, gang restrooms, interior doors, vinyl flooring fittings, fixed furnishings, and exterior windows are scheduled for 2011. This report contains condition and adequacy data collected during the 2010/2011 Facility Condition Assessment (FCA). The detailed condition and deficiency statements are contained in this report.

Energy conservation opportunities for this building include: 1) Replacing the HVAC equipment with more efficient units on the next renewal; 2) Replacing the plumbing fixtures and flush controls with low flow units on the next renewal; and 3) Replacing the building control and automation system with a system that controls both HVAC and lighting.

Sequoyah Middle School is a six through eighth grade facility. The building was originally a high school that has

been converted to a middle school. Recent renovations to the school have included a new heating ventilation and

air-conditioning system as well as ceiling tiles. Some of the spaces were still vacant due to the renovation and

should be occupied during the month of November.

Suitability - Middle_Jr. High->Site-->Traffic

The school is equipped with separate parent drop off and bus lanes. The bus lane is short in length and requires the

buses to parked beside each other. Students then must walk between buses to access their bus.

The school has a baseball diamond and tennis courts that are not currently used. The school has a practice facility

that is used for both football and soccer. It is surrounded with an asphalt track. The practice field is in extremely

poor condition and the asphalt track has numerous cracks and holes. These facilities are also used for physical

The MDF is located in a closet in the teachers lounge/workroom. It is a small space that is on a separate

air-conditioned system.

Technology Readiness->Electrical Power

The instructional spaces meet this standard, however faculty utilize numerous extension cords and various wiring

configurations to accommodate new technology such as smartboards and LCD projectors. Many of the outlets are

not in the right locations and with out extension cords teachers would not be able to utilize the equipment effectively.

The school is just completing the installation of a new HVAC system. The system is extremely noisy in the

classrooms.
