Night works in Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise
FACT SHEET
Why work at night?
Conducting works at night when the highway is less busy ensures two lanes of traffic in each direction can be maintained on the Gold Coast Highway during peak periods.
Some service upgrades and relocations require interruptions to the services. This is best done at night when demand for these services is at their lowest.
Working at night increases opportunity to fast-track work minimising the duration of disruption.

Before the Gold Coast’s new light rail system can be built, some of the roads it will travel on need to be upgraded.
The roadworks currently underway along the Gold Coast Highway from Surfers Paradise Boulevard to Australia Avenue involve widening and levelling the road and relocating / upgrading the underground services such as water, telecommunications, gas and electricity.
Baulderstone Pty Ltd has been contracted by the State Government to construct the Broadbeach early enabling roadworks.
Where are the night works?
The Broadbeach roadworks are being constructed in two zones (see map) to enable work to be completed and moved along the work area as quickly as possible.
Southern zone – Armrick Avenue to Australia Avenue
Northern zone – Surfers Paradise Boulevard to Armrick Avenue
Night works will be required intermittently throughout the work schedule to complete the work in the shortest timeframe possible and minimise disruption to local residents and commuters over the medium term. Residents and businesses in the area will be provided with regular updates on the works schedule.

What is being done to minimise disruption?Minimising the impact to residents and businesses is one of our main priorities.
Low pitch reversing alarms are used on all machinery whenever possible instead of the higher pitched reversing alarms. Baulderstone also employ a permanent night shift supervisor who is in charge of the night shift so any issues are resolved quickly and lessons are carried through. Community feedback is monitored to ensure any issues are addressed as soon as possible.
The project team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 1800 967 377.
TimeframesNight work will occur on most nights from Sunday to Thursday from 6:30pm to 6:30am, however Baulderstone plans work so the very noisy activities (such as concrete cutting) are done before 9pm whenever possible.
Completion dates and works holiday closuresMeasures have been put in place to fast track the works in the southern zone with works now occurring on both sides of the Gold Coast Highway in this section. This will enable most of these works to be completed by Christmas 2011 (weather and construction conditions permitting). Works will continue in the northern zone until early to mid 2012.
The Broadbeach road works site will close for the holiday season from close of business on Friday 23 December 2011 and will re-open on Tuesday 3 January 2012.
