ABOUT THE PROGRAM Our program is unique and distinct in its focus on the interplay between science and policy. The Master of Science in Environmental Science and Policy explores natural resources management, policy making for sustainability, and scientific solutions to environmental problems. Courses are taught by distinguished instructors with valuable experience in the academic, public, and corporate sectors.

Graduates of this part-time program emerge

with a combination of expertise in science and policy that enables them to assume key positions in public and private entities responsible for safeguarding our environmental future. Many of our students are already employed in the environmental field, but wish to enhance their training or move in new directions. Others are seeking a strong foundation to help them move into the arena of environmental sciences and policy.

FLEXIBLE STUDY OPTIONS

The program consists of ten courses and is designed to be flexible so students can take classes at a full- or part-time pace. We offer classes in the evenings so students can earn their degree without interrupting their careers. Most courses are offered in Washington, DC or in an online format, with a limited selection in Baltimore. Note that the program does have a one-course residency requirement.

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

» Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Meeting the minimum GPA requirement does not guarantee admission.

» One semester of undergraduate calculus and one semester of undergraduate statistics.

» One semester of undergraduate general chemistry.

» Applicants who do not have the necessary undergraduate training in calculus, statistics, or chemistry may be offered provisional admission if their other credentials are strong.

» GRE accepted, but not required

NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL SCOPE

Todays world of increasing environmental awareness and rapid change in science has demanded an increased demand in interdisciplinary professionals capable of solving global “wicked” problems.

Curricula in the Environmental Science Policy program takes a holistic approach for putting students in position to join the global science community.

Classes are focused towards wide ranging issues such as imperiled global ecosystems, natural resource economies and multinational environmental trusts and laws.

Not only do graduates have the technical skills to make changes at the forefront of sustainability science but also have the bureaucratic, political and regulatory acumen to actually implement developments within governmental constructs.
