Total integration
- The Data Director is
versatile. In addition to being able to
communicate with all versions of
Microsoft Dynamics NAV or AX, it can
also communicate with Microsoft SQL
Server and MicrosoftAccess.
- The Data Director is
resilient to network and server
breakdowns. In case of a network or
server breakdown, packages are
queued up until connections have

transmission can continue.
- Remote
administration is built into the Data
Director. Abnormal events are loggedinto the Microsoft Windows Event
Log.
- The Data Director
is managed through the familiar

environment. It is fully integrated with
Microsoft Dynamics NAV/AX and LS
Retail.
Data Director in LS Retail NAV
The LS Data Director is a tool which takes care of high-speed data exchange between
different Microsoft Dynamics NAV databases, and other databases that are not based on
Microsoft Dynamics NAV. The Data Director was specifically designed to increase the
speed of replication over Wide Area Networks (WAN). It uses shorter time to send data
and requires lesser bandwidth than previous generations.
These features are especially important to users who have databases in different areas
or regions, as they are able to save communication costs, get higher speed and spend
lesser time.
The Data Director speeds up the replication process by pre-processing the data. Before
the data is sent, it is put into packages that can be re-sent to multiple destinations. This
reduces the time spent in reading data from the source database drastically, since the
data is read only once, even if it is sent to multiple destinations. The packages are
compressed before they are sent, which decreases transmission time even more. The
end result is that the Data Director can be up to 20 times faster than the previous
database replication solutions when performingtypical replication jobs.
Database plugins enablethe DDand theTS to connect to various differentdatabases.

Methods of replication
Normal
Normal with Replication Counter
By Action
- It reads the records from source database, finds the corresponding records indestinationdatabase, and makes them identical
- A normal replication with Replication Counter limitsthe records replicated each time. Replication Counter value is incremented when thereis anyinsertion or modificationin therecords of that table.
- Whenever there is any change (insert, modify, delete or rename) in therecords of a table, system keeps track of those changes. Using By Actions method, thesystem uses Preaction/Actions to replicate data from source table to destination.
Modesof Data Director
Data Director
2nd Stage Data Director
Transaction Server
This is the regular flavour of Data Director. This mode is used to senddata between databases and is non-interactive.
This mode of Data Director is used to forward the datapackages being created by Data Director Service running in Data Director Mode.
This is interactive mode of Data Director used by POS to makequeries into remote databases.
FEATURES
Data Director
Replication
Speedsup thereplication process up to 20 times, compared to previous replication methods
Exchanges data with databasesthat arenot based on MicrosoftDynamicsNAV
Sends data much fasterand requires less bandwidth
Reduces drastically thetime spent in reading data from the source database
Able to communicate with all versions of Microsoft Dynamics NAV
Communicates also with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server2005 andbeyond,
Resilient to network and server breakdowns.
It allowsreplicationof data between twodatabases.
It allowsto schedulethe replication of each table at user defined intervals.
It allowscontrolling data distributioni.e., which records areto be replicated where.
It allows identifies and configures the fields in a table that are to be replicated depending on theirfunctionality.
It offersseveral methods of replication, based on the core area of interest be it the replication timeor the need to extend replicated data from databases to POS terminals, all depending on thetablesbeing replicated.
It allows replication of data between two databases that do not have the same table and fieldstructure.
