These changes may have consequences for future maintenance and management costs. Increasingly, Buro CITE draws up maintenance protocols during the design phase of a project. This gives insight in the consequences of design for maintenance, which politicians can take in to account during the decision making process. Guideline for design Buro CITE has developed guidelines and manuals for the design of public space for several councils. In a time where budgets are under pressure, and managing departments are more and more responsible for the whole maintenance process, there is a need to set guidelines for the standard principles for the design of public space. These guidelines describe all the requirements the design of public space must meet. A guideline simplifies and clarifies communication with external parties (developers, engineers and consultants, contractors) and internal parties (new colleagues, other departments etc). Sustainable procurement In 2015 procurement by local authorities is required to be 100% sustainable. This principle should be included in the policy, management and the (maintenance) specifications. Buro CITE always adopts sustainable procurement and Social Return principles. Survey of maintenance management costs City- and towncouncils are obliged to keep their public space at a certain maintenance level. Buro CITE made a report for Enkhuizen town council which indicated the budget the council needs to keep its public space at the desired level. BURO CITE PROJECTS Using community oriented policies Noordwijk town council has the ambion to improve the quality of life in the streets and bridge the divide between the public and the local government by using a neighbourhood oriented approach. Buro CITE has, in cooperaon with the council, drawn up a policy which elaborates on the implementaon of this community oriented approach ‘new style'. Landscape maintenance plan For the period 2012-2017 a scheduled ground maintenance plan has been drawn up for all parks and open spaces within the municipality of Noordwijk. Through a management plan Buro CITE has given insight in the necessary maintenance measures and required resources (budget and staffing). Public space management products Cyclus provides their services to various councils. To give insight in the various contracts Cyclus has with it’s clients, Buro CITE has made product descripons for all their public space maintenance related services. For each product the corresponding workflow has been recorded. Public space maintenance contracts Buro CITE draws up annual maintenance contracts for mulple clients (street care, weed control, street lighng, etc.). These are tradional maintenance specificaons, open item specificaons (call-off contracts) and image specificaons.
