The basic aim of the theme pavilion is to provide a thrust to the exports of Indian handicrafts. The theme setting at India International Trade Fair will provide an opportunity to the craftsmen / artisans, entrepreneurs to interact directly with the overseas buyers as well as sell the products directly to the overseas buyers.
National Centre for Design & Product
Development (NCDPD) is setting up a specially
designed theme pavilion that displays the entire
array of handicraft items from all across India at the
India International Trade Fair (IITF) from 14th –
27th November, 2011 at Pragati Maidan, New
Delhi. The range of products displayed at the
theme pavilion will showcase the creativity and
diversity inherent in the Indian handicraft.
Starting from Jammu & Kashmir down to Kerala, the diversity in Indian handicrafts is breathtaking and awe inspiring. Be it wood, stone, metal, leather or fabric, Indian handicrafts encompass all media and provide a rich and colorful world of products with immense beauty and exquisite design. The craftsmen in India have been engaged in making beautiful handicraft items since the ancient period and over time, craft has been infused with new and innovative art techniques and influences, making it more useful and handy and enhancing its aesthetic value.
There is a gap in the perception / potential and the exposure / realisation as far as the Indian handicrafts are concerned. Indian handicrafts are famous for their craftsmanship and exquisite design. However, due to weak market linkage, Indian handicrafts have not realized their true potential.
