JOHN CONRAD Chemistry

Christine Cutucache, Ph.D., is a tumor immunologist and science education researcher. She is interested in student-centered, inquiry-based practices to improve learning outcomes. As an undergraduate, Cutucache was active in undergraduate research and now leads a productive laboratory filled with undergraduates, affording them the same opportunities. She values training students to be scientists and problem solvers. Further, she emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of biomedicine across her courses.

John Conrad, Ph.D., serves as an assistant professor of chemistry. His teaching load extends from freshman- level general chemistry courses through senior/graduate-level biochemistry courses. His student-focused approach, and various active learning strategies, consistently encourage students to take learning into their own hands, all while presenting material with a high level of enthusiasm. Teaching activities continue into the research lab, with an environment that provides professional development while exposing them to novel biochemical research.

Ramazan Kılınç, Ph.D., is an associate professor of political science and co-director of the Islamic Studies Program at UNO. He received his Ph.D. (2008) from Arizona State University and M.A. (2001) and B.A. (1999) from Bilkent University, Turkey. He is the author of Alien Citizens: State and Religious Minorities in Turkey and France (Cambridge, forthcoming) and co-author of Generating Generosity in Catholicism and Islam: Beliefs, Institutions, and Public Goods Provision (Cambridge, 2018).

UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA INNOVATION, DEVELOPMENT AND ENGAGEMENT AWARD

Nick Stergiou, Ph.D., is the Distinguished Community Research Chair in Biomechanics and professor, as well as the director of the Biomechanics Research Building and the Center for Research in Human Movement Variability at UNO. He was appointed as the assistant dean of the Division of Biomechanics and Research Development, and is the founding chair of the Department of Biomechanics. He is a professor in the Department of Environmental, Agricultural, and Occupational Health of the College of Public Health at UNMC. His research focuses on understanding variability inherent in human movement and he is an international authority in the study of nonlinear dynamics.

He has been inducted into the National Academy of Kinesiology and as a fellow to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Stergiou’s research has impacted training techniques of surgeons, and the treatment and rehabilitation of pathologies, such as peripheral arterial disease. He has received over $30 million in personal funding from NIH, NASA, and the Department of Education, among others. He received the largest grant in the history of UNO; a $10.1 million NIH P20 grant, allowing the development of the Center for Research in Human Movement Variability. He has several inventions and procured a private donation to build the Biomechanics Research Building, opened in August 2013, which is the first building dedicated to biomechanics research in the world.
