About the Performers
Trombonist Richard Stout enjoys an active performing career both
through his orchestra position as Second Trombone/Bass Trumpet/
Euphonium as well as through his many solo and chamber music
projects. A member of The Cleveland Orchestra since 2000, Mr. Stout
has been a faculty member of the Cleveland Institute of Music since
2001. Actively involved with chamber music at the Institute with
students, he performs chamber music regularly in a variety of
ensembles. He performs a wide range of solo works, including solo
concerto performances with orchestras. His most recent recital
performances have been with wife Christina Dahl, with whom he has
recorded Fantasies for trombone and piano for Albany Records, due to
be released in late 2011. Included on that recording is the Phantasie, by
Caleb Burhans, which Mr. Stout and Ms. Dahl commissioned. He
completed his musical studies at The Curtis Institute of Music, where
he studied with Glenn Dodson. Prior to joining The Cleveland
Orchestra, he held positions with the Jacksonville Symphony, the New
Haven Symphony and the North Carolina Symphony.
Christina Dahl is a chamber musician, soloist and teacher who is on
the piano faculty at Stony Brook University. She has spent summers at
the Aspen Music Festival, been a collaborating artist at the Steans
Institute of the Ravinia Festival, and was a fellow both at the
Tanglewood Center and the Banff Center. Ms. Dahl was both a faculty
member and chair of the piano department at the Eastern Music Festival
for nine years, and has subsequently joined the faculty at the Icicle
Creek Music Center and Yellow Barn Festival and School. She has
been a visiting faculty member variously at CIM, Peabody
Conservatory and Ithaca College. She has twice been a cultural
ambassador for the U.S. State Department, once as a solo recitalist and
once as a member of a violin/piano duo. She is a frequent recitalist on
university artist series, and is in demand as a master class teacher. Her
students have gone on from Stony Brook to win international piano
competitions, teach at universities and form new music ensembles.
