In The Loop 4-H News August 2017

Extension Programs are available to all without discrimination.

Colorado State University, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Garfield County cooperating.

Fair Thoughts And Afterthoughts In the hustle and the bustle of the Garfield County Fair,

4-Her's, parents, and leaders can be found working

there. Grandma Clara noted competition was keen for

ribbons, trophies, and such. Grandma Clara hoped they

had not forgotten the year of learning that means just

as much.

Why, Suzi learned to sew this year and made

the straightest stitch, and Brian built a rocket that flew

without a hitch. Frank made his mother a coffee table

built of wood. Fred set out to climb a mountain and found out that he could. Michael raised a

bumper crop of vegetables: tomatoes, peas, and beans. Thayne made homemade ice cream from

his dairy goat's own cream. Cindy helped deliver her cow's new heifer calf. Julie learned to ride a

horse. Tessie learned to be a clown, to make people laugh.

Martha learned to babysit. Jill was a good Jr. Leader. Mark learned to drive a tractor. Cory

became a reader. Elmer learned to bait a line. Kelly set some goals and surpassed obtaining them.

Annie learned to be a president. Jerry made some friends and

helped them with their projects.

Yes, Grandma Clara reflected.... 4-H is so much more than a

shiny trophy, a pretty ribbon, or a fair judges score. It's family

and friends working together, and sharing in the fun of learn-

ing and living. 4-H is about making decisions, facing challenges

together, helping one another, sharing, giving, and satisfying

the questions 'Why?' and 'What For?'

Grandma Clara's right you know, 4-H is so much more than a

shiny trophy, a pretty ribbon, or a fair judges score. Please

come and share with us in the hustle and bustle at the Garfield

County Fair.

Cloverbud’s Participation

Garfield County Fair-August 4th, 9:00 am

Extension Programs are available to all without discrimination.

Colorado State University, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and Garfield County cooperating.

Parking during the Fair

Safety and welfare of all citizens attending the Garfield County Fair is the primary concern of all Emer-

gency Service providers and security.

Parking has always been one of the major issues during the Fair and is a huge safety issue and concern

for all attending the fair from an Emergency Service and security view. Some of the issues are vehicles parked

blocking fire lanes, vehicles parked outside of the marked parking lanes and vehicles parking in areas where they

are not allowed to park. All of these issues limit the access of emergency service vehicles to respond if needed in a

timely manner. The County Fair is a family event and the safety of all citizens is the primary concern of the County

and emergency services/security working the fair.

Please park responsibly and be conscious to not block any fire lanes, park outside the marked parking lanes or block

any access points.

Vehicles may be towed at the owner’s expense and there will be no notification given.

This year one vehicle will be allowed to park in the camping area and there will be no exceptions.

The requirements for participation are as follows:

Must be a member of the Garfield County 4-H program and fall under all Garfield

County Fair Livestock Rules and Responsibilities. Ages 5-7 years old as of December 31st

of the previous year.

Club leaders and youth member will work with 4-H Cloverbud members to help the

exhibitor prepare for the exhibition.

Cloverbuds will exhibit during the Garfield County Fair on Friday, August 4th at 9:00am.

Cloverbud members will be able to exhibit swine and goats ONLY.

Animals exhibited must be tagged in at the Garfield County Fair spring tag-in or shown in a

breeding class.

Cloverbuds will be responsible for contacting 4-H and FFA members for use of livestock to ex-

hibit during designated time.

Cloverbuds will complete an online entry by July 3rd

to participate at the Garfield County Fair.

The show will be run by the Garfield County Extension Office and Livestock Superintendents. If you

have any additional questions please contact the Extension Office.
