2020 ORBA CONVENTION PLANNING COMMITTEE

On behalf of the Ontario Road Builders’ Association and the 2020 ORBA Convention Planning Committee, I am pleased to invite you to ORBA’s 93rd Annual Convention & AGM taking place February 02-04, 2020 at the newly renovated Fairmont Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto.

The theme of this coming year’s convention is Staying Ahead of the Curve. It is paramount that as an industry we approach the future with our eyes wide open and are prepared with the expertise needed to meet the ever changing and growing transportation infrastructure needs of Ontario. With that in mind, over the past several months, our 2020 Convention Planning Committee, comprised of industry leaders, developed a program that will provide strategic insights for the road building industry and its stakeholders for 2020 and beyond. From the impact climate change is having on our infrastructure to addressing the skilled workers shortage in the industry, each session will provide first-hand knowledge from top industry experts and policy leaders.

The 2020 ORBA Convention is one of Ontario’s premier industry networking events of the year and this year, for the first time ever, the Convention is open to members and non-members alike! There will be plenty of opportunities throughout the Convention, including the Contractors’ Round Up, Late-Night Convention Suite and the Trade Show, to meet and mingle one-on-one with the over 800 delegates from all sectors of the road building industry.

I encourage you to read through this brochure to learn more about Staying Ahead of the Curve, ORBA’s 93rd Annual Convention program. I believe this year’s program will be of interest and great value to all those who play a major role in Ontario’s transportation and infrastructure industry.

I look forward to seeing you all at the Fairmont Royal York on February 02-04, 2020!

JAMES McVEETY

2020 ORBA Convention Committee Chair and ORBA Board of Directors 1st Vice President

STAYING AHEAD OF THE CURVE93rd ANNUAL ORBA CONVENTION & AGM

Bringing together researchers, policy leaders and the best minds in the industry, the Ontario Road Builders’ Association’s 93rd Annual Convention and AGM, Staying Ahead of the Curve, will provide attendees the information needed to face current challenges and to gain clear perspective on how to stay ahead of the curve in meeting Ontario’s ever changing and growing infrastructure needs.

Highlights of the 2020 ORBA Convention include keynote speaker, Canadian author, environmentalist, and politician Jim Harris, who is an expert on disruptive innovation and our President’s Inaugural Dinner guest speaker, former Mississauga Mayor, Hazel McCallion, who, during her 36 years as mayor grew Mississauga from a small collection of villages to one of Canada’s largest cities.

This year’s convention will take place at Toronto’s historic and newly renovated Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Located in the downtown core, the Fairmont Royal York is minutes from the city’s biggest events and attractions including: The CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, Scotiabank Arena, Rogers Centre, the Eaton Centre, and the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts.
