Year 7 Christian Service engages students in two ways:

Sustain Our Swan: students participate in a two day workshop centred on caring for our environment; the health of the Swan River as primary concern

Serving to Belong: students participate in a class program which explores the history and traditions of Trinity College which are rooted in Christian Service

Year 7 Christian Service engages students in two ways:

SUSTAIN OUR SWAN Students participate in a two day workshop run by Christian Service, centred on caring for our environment; the health of the Swan River as primary concern• To raise awareness of our students’ responsibility to care for the local

environment, especially the Swan River.• To allow the boys, through interaction with various organizations and involvement

in activities, to explore ways to respond.• To introduce the students to Christian Service and its importance within the

College.

SERVING TO BELONGStudents participate in a program through RE classes which explores the history and traditions of Trinity College which are rooted in Christian Service

Sustain Our Swan

• During the week when your sons will be attending the Year 7 Becoming Brothers Retreat at Camp Kelly, a complimentary program will be run at Trinity College for students while they are remaining at school.

• Students in Year 7.5 - 7.8 will participate in SOS on Monday and Tuesday

• Students in Year 7.1 – 7.4 will participate in SOS on Thursday and Friday.

• Students are to wear Sports Uniform to school on those days and to bring a water bottle and a hat with them.

SUSTAIN OUR SWAN

• The program will be made up of a series of activities with an environmental theme, raising awareness of issues which affect our locality, specifically the Swan River. They will be involved for most of the day in outdoor activities on the banks of the river near the College. \

• Eco Action will be coordinating the activities with our students and Mrs Marya Stewart, Mr Michael Slacksmith and Mr Ray Kosovich will be facilitating the program over the four days. Mr Kosovich will also be introducing Year 7 students to the Christian Service Program “Serving to Belong” during this time

• Interactive experiences are presented by Eco Action, Kanyana Wildlife Centre, Bindi Bindi Dreaming, Dolphin Watch, SERCUL

• ABORIGINAL CULTURE • Bindi Bindi means Butterfly in the local Noongar language.“

• Bindi Bindi Dreaming aims to showcase unique Aboriginal culture of Perth, Western Australia. Bindi Bindi Dreaming will allow visitors to gain a better understanding about its traditional people whom are local to the Perth/Metropolitan area and share their continuation of cultural traditions.

• Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to wildlife conservation. We care for sick, injured, orphaned, and displaced wildlife; breed threatened species; conduct training and research; and educate schools and community

DOLPHIN WATCH

• The river is our home

• How lucky are we to have dolphins that call our river home?

• Learn all about these dolphins, how to identify them by name and recognisebehaviours. and learn what you can do to keep our rivers healthy.

• This incursion provides an introduction to Dolphin Watch techniques and engages students in critical thinking activities that explore the science, impacts, adaptations and actions relating to the dolphins living specifically within the Swan Canning Riverpar

OUR NEIGHBOUR

• 15 hours of Christian Service at home and in local neighbourhood

• Scripture Story: The Good Samaritan

• Theme: Applying the Principles of Christian Service in my daily life

• Introductory class on principles of Christian Service with MrsStewart/ Mr Kosovich

RESTORING RELATIONSHIPS

• Commitment: 3 visits to help at local primary school

• Scripture Stories: Jesus spending time with little children

• Theme: Building relationships with children who have had less or different opportunities.

• Students, in pairs, attend a primary school from 8.30 to 9.30 for one morning a week for three weeks

• Students are taken to and from the primary school by minibus, leaving at 8am and returning by 10am

WINTER SLEEPOUT

Four weeks in India working with people who care for the most destitute children and adults. Visit places where the money Trinity raises is used to help these people

Kimberley Immersion

Three weeks working with Aboriginal organizations in Broome and the Dampier Peninsular learning from their culture, history and life experience.

Immersion and Pilgrimage

• Through immersion in a different culture and by building relationships with people in unfamiliar circumstances, students develop as compassionate and open-minded people, willing to serve others and to learn from them.

• Indian Pilgrimage takes place in November/ December every second year

• Kimberley Immersion take place in June/July in the alternate year

• Small Group of students is selected to be involved

• Students make a written application

• All applicants must attend an interview with two staff

• Final decision made by interview team in consultation with Head of Year and Principal
