PRELUDE Improvisation on Oculi mei Michael Rees, Organist.Pianist WORDS OF WELCOME

OPENING PRAYER - Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves. Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen HYMN Great Is Thy Faithfulness CALL TO CONFESSION - Dearly beloved, we have come together in the presence of Almighty God our heavenly Father, to set forth his praise, to hear his holy Word, and to ask, for ourselves and on behalf of others, those things that are necessary for our life and our salvation. And so that we may prepare ourselves in heart and mind to worship him, let us kneel in silence, and with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy. UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION - Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Offering silent prayers WORDS OF ASSURANCE - Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen. PEACE - Imagine yourself seated in the midst of the great community of faith gathered to worship God. Close your eyes and let your mind picture your friends and a few new-comers sitting around you… Who are you thinking about right now? Who are the familiar faces? Who is not so familiar, but has coming seeking a word of hope, a gesture of comfort, a sign of peace? In silence let us each pray for God’s peace, hope and comfort to surround them, and us. HYMN Be Still, My Soul FIRST TESTAMENT LESSON Job 38: 1-11 HYMN Blest Be the Tie That Binds RESPONSIVE PSALM Psalm 9: 9-20

The Lord will be a refuge for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name will put their trust in you, For you never forsake those who seek you, O Lord.Sing praise to the Lord who dwells in Zion; Proclaim to the people the things he has done.

The Avenger of blood will remember them; He will not forget the cry of the afflicted.Have pity on me, O Lord; see the misery I suffer from those who hate me,O you who lift me up from the gate of death; So that I may tell of your praises and rejoice in your salvation in the gates of the city of Zion. The nations have fallen into the pit they dug; And in the snare the set is their own foot caught. The Lord is known by his acts of justice; The wicked are trapped in the works of their own hands. The wicked shall be given over to the grave, And also all the people that forget God.For the needy shall not always be forgotten. And the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.Rise up, O Lord, do not let the nations have the upper hand; Let them be judged before you.Put fear upon them, O Lord; Let the nations know they are but mortal.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
