Remember Your Baptism Summer has finally come! What better time to remember your baptism and be thankful. When you take a dive into the pool on a hot day and feel revived, remember your baptism. When you come inside sweating from working or playing hard in the sun, splash your face, wash your hands, feel refreshed and remember your baptism. When you are parched, drink a tall glass of ice water, quench your thirst and remember your baptism. When you see kids running through a sprinkler laughing with delight, notice a smile come across your face and remember your baptism. When you water your flowers and see the difference it makes, remember your baptism. When an afternoon thundershower washes away the oppressive humidity, a gentle breeze blesses you with the scent of summer rain and the gift of a rainbow adorns the sky, remember your baptism. Remembering our baptism reminds us of God’s steadfast love that danced amid the dark and formless void that covered the face of the deep and gave birth to light and life for all of creation. Remembering our baptism washes away accumulated distractions and allows us if only for a moment to stand in wonder and awe before the magnitude of God’s love and grace. Like the Psalmist, our hearts sing out with renewed revelation, “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet, you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor” (Psalm 8). Remembering our baptism renews and revives us just like water in so many ways will renew and revive us this summer. Already this summer there are four baptisms scheduled. Each occasion will be an opportunity for all of us to remember and renew our own baptism. If you have never been baptized, know that a baptism awaits you! If you’d like to learn more about baptism, Cara or I would love to talk with you. God’s love has been poured out for all creation to join the dance. Remember Your Baptism

Summer has finally come! What better time to remember your baptism and be thankful. When you take a dive into the pool on a hot day and feel revived, remember your baptism. When you come inside sweating from working or playing hard in the sun, splash your face, wash your hands, feel

refreshed and remember your baptism. When you are parched, drink a tall glass of ice water, quench your thirst and remember your baptism. When you see kids running through a sprinkler

laughing with delight, notice a smile come across your face and remember your baptism. When you water your flowers and see the difference it makes, remember your baptism. When an afternoon

thundershower washes away the oppressive humidity, a gentle breeze blesses you with the scent of summer rain and the gift of a rainbow adorns the sky, remember your baptism.

Remembering our baptism reminds us of God’s steadfast love that danced amid the dark and

formless void that covered the face of the deep and gave birth to light and life for all of creation. Remembering our baptism washes away accumulated distractions and allows us if only for a moment to stand in wonder and awe before the magnitude of God’s love and grace. Like the

Psalmist, our hearts sing out with renewed revelation, “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet, you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor” (Psalm 8). Remembering our baptism renews and revives

us just like water in so many ways will renew and revive us this summer.

Already this summer there are four baptisms scheduled. Each occasion will be an opportunity for all of us to remember and renew our own baptism. If you have never been baptized, know that a

baptism awaits you! If you’d like to learn more about baptism, Cara or I would love to talk with you. God’s love has been poured out for all creation to join the dance.

In ministry together,

Pastor Steve

The Mission feeds over 500 families monthly and appreciates all donations of non-perishable foods, personal hygiene and paper products. A marked box is

located in the gallery for contributions to the Food Pantry. Thanks for your

generous support!

As of mid-May, we have $550 toward our goal of $3360 by next February. Many of you are very loyal contributors, and for that we are grateful! This month, I’d like you to learn about Sabrina Pereira-Pereyra, one of our teen students at the New Horizon School in Paraguay. Sabrina and her family are involved in the Herbalife Company, and she wants to be a nutritionist when she is out of school. She wants to show people how

to change their lives for the better. Sabrina is also a student of Taekwondo, which improves her discipline, strength and fitness. One of Sabrina’s favorite things to do is to go to a nearby city with her friends. There is a park where they enjoy spending time together. Sabrina hopes to return to the park with some of the new friends she has made at the school.

Sabrina sends this message to you: “Every day I thank God for the many blessings that he always gives me (like

being with my family and enjoying everything around us). I especially thank him for the opportunity to wake up to

another day.”

Thank you for contributing to Sabrina’s future. See her photo on the bulletin board in the east hallway.

A faith-based summer literacy program for kids entering grades K-3.

Wednesdays July 3, 10, 17 (VBS), 24, & 31; 10:00 am – Noon Tell your friends, family, and neighbors and invite a child to come to Faith’s Camp Read-A-Lot! Registration in-formation will be available on our website or in the church office! It is with great joy that we celebrate that Faith UMC has been awarded a Summertime Fun Kids Grant from the Stark Community Foundation to help support our faith-based summer literacy program, Faith’s Camp Read-A-Lot! We are so excited that so many parents and grandparents from our community are inquiring about bringing their children to Camp Read-A-Lot this summer! As of this writing nearly 90 children are looking for somebody to share their love for reading by serving as a volunteer during Faith's summer literacy program. Volunteers are needed to serve as mentors to read & play games with children, interact with parents, assist with setting up & cleaning up learning stations, and be prayer partners. Training will be provided. Donations of children’s books, beginning readers, & monetary donations are much appreciated to help support this summer ministry! Each week we will focus on a Biblical theme to help reinforce some important life lessons. One of our weekly literacy centers will be a service project designed to give the children an opportunity to help others while they are practicing literacy skills. Fun activities are planned to help the children develop larger vocabularies, in-crease their comprehension, do better with sounds and letters, and to read with ease and confidence. Join us this summer and make a difference for Jesus in the life of a child. Contact Laura Luikart, Paulette Baker, Jan Baker, or Kathy Schmucker for more information. MEMBERSHIP CARE

June 7, Delbert Larrick, 96

We extend our deepest sympathy to: The family and friends of Janice Boli who died on April 26, 2013 Jim & Peggy Savage on the death of Jim’s father, Richard Savage, on May 11, 2013

Notes this month from: Doris Ashley, Audrey Morrison, and the Bilkert Family

Attention all Faith Cooks! We have a newly forming Ministry Task Group forming under the Membership Care Ministry Team. This is a Food Ministry which falls under Helping Hands and is being coordinated by Nancy Share. This ministry is intended for members who have a short term need for meals at home. Perhaps it is a new mom and dad with their baby, a member who has just returned home from surgery, or a member who has been in an accident and is having a hard time getting around.

Could you please help by providing a meal to a member in need? Nancy is currently looking for volunteers who

are willing to prepare a meal. Please call her at 330-212-5136 or email her at [email protected] if she

can add you to her list. We are hoping to have enough people on our list that we won’t have to ask you for help

more than once or twice a year. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to serve.

Come join us for the second annual retirement celebration on Thursday, June 6th, in Robinson Hall at 7:00pm to welcome this new stage of your life! If you have retired in the past three years or will be retiring in the next three, call the office and make your reservation. We will explore some of the many ways Faith UMC can help in the process of retiring and adjusting to a new kind of life. Come and join us for finger food, future-planning, and fun! RSVPs to the church by June 4th.

SHARING YOUR STORY This fall we will be exploring a church-wide sermon and study series called The Story. We’ll be getting to the heart of God’s story as we experience the Bible as one continuing story of God and His people. We are looking for people willing to share their story through a weekly devotion based on each week’s scripture. If you have a passion for writing and are willing to share how you experience God’s story, please contact Kathy Schmucker for more information.

LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION! We want YOU to be in short video which will be shown this summer in

preparation for our Fall Worship/Study Series, “The Story”. No acting experience necessary! We are looking for shy/outgoing, families/singles, and children/adults. We want a wide variety of people and that includes you! Find the Adirondack Chairs in the Narthex and in the Family Life Center to sign up for a time slot. This will only take 5-10 minutes per person/group. There are time slots available beginning Sunday, June 2nd during the 8:30, 9:45 and 11:00 services and throughout the week ending Thursday, June 6th. Contact Carmie Johnson, Communications Coordinator with questions at 330.499.6040 or [email protected]

A couple of weeks ago I was blessed to attending a conference that I have fallen in love with over the past couple of years. The conference was the Orange Conference which focuses on developing a family ministry that connects children, youth, and college stu-

dents under one umbrella while seeking to partner with parents to have a greater impact on the next generation. Read the full story at http://refuge-faithumc.blogspot.com/

As we expanded upon the theme over the course of the conference we discussed the thought there are six things that every child/student needs from us. They need time, love, words, stories, tribes, and fun.

• A child/student needs time in order to create history • A child/student needs love in order to prove their worth • A child/student needs words in order to provide direction • A child/student needs stories in order to see perspective • A child/student needs tribes in order to create a sense of belonging • A child/student needs fun in order to create connection

As we journey together over the next year we will explore how much time of influence we have left with our

children/students. (If you can’t wait to see how much time you have left with your own child there is an app which is available for I Phones by searching “Orange Legacy” which will let you know the number of weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds you have left). We will also be looking at the fact that what we do every week matters in the development of our students as well as how to invest their lives through time, love, words, stories, tribes, and fun. We look forward to partnering with you and sharing in this discussion as we seek to impact the next generation!

As our students prepare for their mission trip to Rockford, Illinois in the summer of 2013 they have already started earning their service/fundraising hours during the past few months. We have had students participate through: Helping through assistance with children’s Sunday School classes Serving a dinner for the Confirmation Banquet & Assisting on Confirmation Sunday Serving at the All Daughter’s Banquet

If you have any questions about the trip, feel free to contact Susan Arnold ([email protected]) or

Donny Bell ([email protected]) or Matt Hart ([email protected]). Thank you for your partnering with this life-changing ministry!

Christ Caring for People through People! Thanks to the foresight of our leaders and the support of our congregation, we are blessed to have a very active Stephen Ministry team. These are lay people who are trained to provide distinctively Christian one-to- one care to those who are experiencing a difficult time in their lives. There are times when each of us needs the care of another person, a Christian friend. Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, bereaved, ill, or facing a life transition. Stephen Ministers can be available for you---to share and care. This is a confidential ministry and those receiving care can be

assured that their identity and the content of the caring relationship will remain private. If you are in need of a Stephen Minister, you may contact Pam Honnold or Ron Luikart. In addition to the one-to-one care relationship, several Stephen Ministers will be available the second Sunday of the month following each service in the Chapel for prayer with anyone who would desire it. It is our prayer that Christ works through us and that no one feels alone during life's difficult times.

Troop 12: News & Information

Friday, April 5, 2013: The boys really appreciate all of your encouragement and patience with our Spaghetti Dinners. Thank you for all your support in our fundraising efforts. Good Turn Campout – April 12 - 14 Our spring good turn weekend was very successful. Twenty four scouts and nine adults spent the weekend building 48 cabinets for the new, staff housing complex at Seven Ranges, as well as thorn busting in around the beautiful new Hoover Dinning Hall addition. All the new improvements at Seven Ranges are fabulous! If you have an opportunity to travel to Seven Ranges Scout Camp, it is well worth the effort. The Staff at the camp are always working on improving the area for the boy’s enjoyment. May 3 - 5, 2013 Camping at Kelley’s Island During our monthly campout in May, 13 boys and 4 adults camped at East Harbor State Park in Marble-head, Ohio. On Saturday, the boys rode the ferry over to Put In Bay on South Bass Island where they hiked more than ten miles, rode golf carts for the afternoon, played miniature golf, looked for sea glass on the shores of Lake Erie, and enjoyed the colorful visitors that were also on the island for “Derby Weekend.” No need to worry – all our boys returned safely, and no horses or hats were hurt during the festivities. North Canton Parks – Service Project – May 18, 2013 Troop 12 helped the North Canton Parks department spruce up the grounds around Price Park and the Civ-ic Center. If you get a chance, drive down Maple Ave. to see how nice it all looks. Summer Camp Is ALMOST here – June 23 - 29, 2013 The countdown until summer camp has begun. Paperwork and physicals are complete, merit badges have been chosen, and bundles of pipestone are fastidiously being collected. In fact, we would like to congratu-late Kyle Mayle; he was the first scout to turn in his bundle pipestone wood. Way to go Kyle! This year our theme for Thursday night’s family dinner will be “Around the World”. We can’t wait to taste what the scouts cook from the various cultures around the world.

A great big "thank you" to all involved with our 2nd annual "Run to the Resurrection" which was held on Saturday,

March 30th! The day dawned clear, but cold! Race time temperature was in the upper 30's. The fun walk went off promptly at 8:00 am. with close to 40 walkers. The 5k run started at 8:15 am, with a North Canton Police escort. The course looped Faith United Methodist Church 3 times with many family members and friends cheering along the route. Banners with the 7 sentences Christ spoke while hanging on the cross, were located at each turn throughout the course. With an estimated total of 125 runners, Taylor Sowers. AJ Brokaw, Amy Palmer and Mianna Schut crossed the finish line first. The age range for our runners went from 6 years old to 71 years old! With close to 40 volunteers, we had over 200 people on the church grounds for the race. Over $400 was raised, along with close to 250 non-perishable food items - all being donated to Faith United Methodist's Faith Kitchen. Again, a huge "thank you" to all the walkers, runners and volunteers who helped make the 2nd annual "Run To The Resurrection" a big success ! We look forward to an even bigger event next April and we hope you will be a part of it!
