JBHS FYI 14
Principal’s Notes Dear Falcon Families, Welcome to October! It is hard for me to believe that we have almost completed the first quarter of our school year. Our students are doing great work in the classroom, on the fields, and in our community. I know you don’t see everything the teachers and staff do each day, but they are so dedicated to our students and work so hard to provide our stu-dents with the best education possible. I invite you to join us for Parent-Teacher Confer-ence Night on Tuesday evening, November 6th. We have many exciting activities taking place in the next few months at our school. I highly encourage all families to participate with Nate Harmon in Your Life Speaks on Wednesday, October 17th at 6:00pm in our auditorium. I also would like to invite you to join us for the Listen Movie on Thursday evening, November 8th at 5:30pm in our auditorium. Our students will be participating in both of these amazing programs during the day. I am proud to report that Jensen Beach High School continues to be a Florida Department of Education ―A‖ rated school and a School of Excellence. We continue to SOAR aca-demically and grow each year. Please follow our website for information on our upcom-ing Guidance Workshops. We are offering many workshops after dinner to help students with Dual Enrollment, Scholarships, College Applications, and basic information for ninth and tenth grade students regarding graduation and dual enrollment requirements. We offer theses workshops to reach out to our parents and make sure they know what is happening at school and what their student’s next steps are on the path to graduation and beyond. Our administration and guidance staff, along with all of our teachers, are here for one main reason: the success of your students. Please reach out to us if you have questions or concerns. We are happy to assist with anything we can. I look forward to another great school year at Jensen Beach High School.
As always, we continue to look forward to partnering with you to ensure your student continues to SOAR. Educationally yours, Lori Vogel
Principal

Dress Code Students have the right to learn without being offended or distracted by the way other people are dressed. Students have the responsibility to dress neatly, be clean and well groomed, and avoid dressing in a manner that offends or distracts others. These samples are not all-inclusive but should serve as a guide for Jensen Beach High School stu-dents. When a student’s appearance at school or at a school-sponsored activity violates the dress code, the parent may be requested to bring alternative clothing and/or the student will be subject to disciplinary action. The following dress code is consistent with the minimum standards set by the school district, but also contains a few additional ones as well, and is in effect from the time a student arrives onto campus and until he/she has left campus.
1. Shirts must have a collar or crew neck. Clothing that exposes the torso is not allowed. The length of shirts may not exceed the wrists when arms are fully extended. If shirts are longer than the student’s wrists when arms are extended, the shirt must be tucked in. Collar shirts with buttons must not have more than 2 buttons from the neckline un-buttoned, even if there is a shirt worn underneath. Sleeveless shirts must cover to the edge of the shoulder and show no undergarments. This includes school athletic uniforms worn during the school day. No messages, pictures, symbols or clothing may be worn or displayed which portray ideas that are harmful to the health, safety, and welfare of students, e.g., messages which relate to drugs, smoking, alcohol, sex, gangs, pro-fanity or violence. The following examples which are considered to be unacceptable, but are not limited to: tube tops, tank tops, spaghetti straps and halters, bare back or midriff clothing, skintight clothing, see-through cloth-ing, and bathing suits.
2. Skirts, skorts, and dresses may not be shorter than 2 inches from the top of the knee. Shorts may not be shorter than 4 inches from the top of the knee. Board shorts aka boys’ bathing suits or soffes are not allowed.
3. Pants, jeans and slacks must be worn to the top of the hipbone or higher. All garments with belt loops must be secured and belted at the hip, must not be baggy or oversized, and the hem of pant legs must not drag on the ground.
4. Clothing which is not worn appropriately, not properly fastened, has tears, holes, or is frayed (even if some-thing is worn underneath) will not be permitted. Undergarments shall not be exposed, i.e. boxer shorts, under-wear, bras.
5. Leggings are only permitted if they are covered by a dress, skirt, skort, or shorts that are in dress code length (skirts, skorts, and dresses may not be shorter than 2 inches from the top of the knee; shorts may not be shorter than 4 inches from the top of the knee), otherwise they will be considered out of dress code.
6. No clothes or accessories with metal studs, spikes, ornaments, chains, or other objects which can scratch furni-ture, damage property, or cause harm to oneself or others may be worn.
7. Pajamas nor slippers shall be worn to school-they are out of dress code.
8. Shoes must be worn at all times. For safety reasons, tap shoes, shoes with cleats or shoes with wheels may not be worn. Shoes with built in containers are prohibited. Shoes with laces and/or straps must be secured at all times. Athletic shoes may be required for Physical Education classes.
9. No hairstyle, jewelry, or tattoo that is a distraction to the learning environment is allowed.
10. Blankets are not allowed on campus.
Cell Phones/Wireless Communication Devices and BYOD Program The possession of a cellular telephone or any type of wireless communication device is not, in it of itself, a violation of the Student Conduct and Discipline Code (SCDC). Students are allowed possession of cell phones; however, when the cell phone disrupts the educational process, or the cell phone is used on a school campus during school hours, or the cell phone is used while a student is being transported on a school district-owned vehicle, then it would be a violation of the SCDC. For the pur-pose of this code, ―use‖ is defined as permitting the device to be in plain sight during the prohibited times and in the locations described above. When it is determined that use has occurred in violation of this policy, then the device will be confiscated and returned to the parent upon his/ her request. Use of a wireless communication device in violation of this policy includes the possibility of the imposition of disciplinary action by the school or criminal penalties if the device is used in a criminal act. We do have a Bring Your Own Device Program that allows students to connect to the District Wireless Network and Internet for classroom use.
*A student must complete and submit a Form #356 (provided in student’s first day packet) to participate in the BYOD program. *

Activity Attendance Policy
If a student plans to participate in any school related activity i.e. homecoming dance, prom, or grad bash they must adhere to the
activity attendance policy.
Students must be present at school a minimum of 90% of the school days.
If, at any time, a student exceeds the established 10% absentee rate (excused and unexcused), he or she will immediately become ineligible to participate in all athletics and extra-curricular school activities including but not limited to:
all games, practices, rehearsals, performances, meetings, field trips, dances, socials, ceremo-nies, and banquets.
The participation restriction will continue until the student re-attains a 90% attendance rate. Participation privileges can be restored on the day the student is in compliance. Excused absences will be reviewed by the Assistant Principal and or the Attendance Committee. Eligibility will roll-over to the first 20 days of the following school year (ex. If a student is ineligible
at the conclusion of the school year, he/she will remain ineligible for the first 20 days of the fol-lowing school year, at which point attendance will be re-evaluated).
NO refunds will be issued if a privilege is lost due to absences.
An absence is counted when you are absent (excused or unexcused) from any class at any point throughout the day (this means…if
you skip a class, it will count as an absence). Suspensions count as absences (you are NOT in class). It is YOUR responsibility to
make sure that if you are tardy to class that the absence is corrected to a tardy.
Attendance Parking Policy Students who miss more than 15 days
(excused or unexcused) of school the first semester

Falcon Parents,
Please do not drop students off on Goldenrod

major safety hazard. Please keep our students
safe and only drop them off at the designated
