sklo is Czech for glass

SkLO is an ongoing collaboration between Pavel Hanousek, founder of Fusion Z, and husband and wife design team, Karen Gilbert and Paul Pavlak - with Hanousek bringing his intuitive knowledge of his native Czech glassblowing, and Gilbert and Pavlak bringing a multi-disciplinary approach to art and design.

Working directly with the Glass Masters in their studios in the Czech Republic, designers Gilbert and Pavlak bring a new modern sensibility to the handmade, handblown Czech glass tradition. While remaining rooted in the unique synergy found between the discipline of design and the craft of the Czech glassworks, SkLO is going beyond glass and glassblowing to create a vibrant, modern, new design brand.

KAREN GILBERT

Artist Karen Gilbert’s work is critically acclaimed and has been published internationally in books and periodicals; it is shown in galleries across the United States and has been acquired for the permanent collections of numerous museums. Karen Gilbert was trained in metalsmithing and glassworking at such institutions as the California College of Art and Pilchuck Glass School.

PAVEL HANOUSEK

Pavel was born and raised in the Czech Republic. He is the founder and managing director of Fusion Z where he served as catalyst between designers and craftspeople. Pavel brings his experience from Fusion Z and a passion for architecture, design and glassblowing.

PAUL PAVLAK

Paul Pavlak has worked as an architect and designer in New York City, Minneapolis, and Northern California. A graduate of the College of Design at the University of Minnesota, his work as a designer includes California wineries, estate residences in the Egyptian desert, furniture and product design, and New York City nightclubs.
