Welcome to a new year for the Greenville Figure Skating Club. Our fall newsletter is

another long edition as we try to celebrate the events from the last few months and

keep you posted on all the exciting things that are coming up.

On behalf of the GFSC Board, I would like to offer congratulations to Judi Webster for

passing her Gold Dance test and to Abby Doyle for passing her Senior Moves in the

Field. Look for Abby‘s new picture on our wall of fame and be sure to applaud these

skaters on a job well done.

Our skaters are excited about South Atlantic Regionals to be held in Raleigh this year.

You won‘t want to miss the Regionals exhibition to be held October 5th as well as our

annual Halloween party, scheduled for October 26th. I‘ll be working on my costume.

You could hear a pin drop on the night of August

24th as Abby Doyle steadily worked her way

through her Senior Moves in the Field test.

Skaters, parents and coaches watched together

and silently hoped that the hard work they had

observed would result in a passing test.

Fortunately when the test was complete and the

results were delivered, Coach Cheryl Faust

announced the news aloud, bringing cheers,

hugs and even some tears. ―I‘ve never made an

announcement about a moves test before, but I

knew everyone was eager to know,‖ Cheryl said.

―I‘m very proud of her.‖

Coach Michelle Wise showed up with test results

and big hugs for Judi Webster on the morning of

the August 22nd test session. Earlier that morn-

ing, Judi had danced her Westminster Waltz with

poise and a smile, to the delight of those watch-

ing. "Completing the Gold Dance Set is a big deal

bigger accomplishment for someone like Judi who

U.S. Figure Skating has recently announced a program that will recognize club

athletes who have passed a figure skating test as well as help U.S. Figure Skating

to get to know its athletes better. Starting in September, once a passed test is

registered by our test chair, a congratulatory email will be sent to our skaters from

the president of USFS. At this time, USFS will invite the skater to take a survey

about her participation. For completing the survey, the skater will receive a

discount to the USFS Online Store. The discount will be based on the level of test

passed. Additionally, USFS will now offer a Gold Medalist jacket for purchase by

any skater who has passed her senior or gold test.
