A Message from the President
Welcome to Wallace
State Community College!
This fall, we are
pleased to introduce new
fully online Associate in
Arts and Associate in Sci-
ence degrees, information
about which can be found
in this schedule. These on-
line degrees, which are
transferrable, complement
our online Associate in Ap-
plied Science degrees in Health Information Technol-
ogy, Business Education, and Computer Science, as
well as many more online classes noted in the follow-
ing pages. As you look through our many offerings,
you will see classes that meet every preference for
learning – day, evening, weekend, on campus, and
online.
Several new programs have also been added to
our offerings, including a new Poultry Science part-
nership with Auburn University, new courses in Hos-
pitality Management, a new Engineering Technology
program, and new Entrepreneurship curriculum.
Wallace State is offering an expanded array of
Learning Community courses as part of our Achiev-
ing the Dream initiative. These classes bring students
together across disciplines in common academic ex-
periences, such as Common Read activities, theatre
productions, film screenings, music and other events.
To participate, enroll in one or more of the courses
with a Learning Community designation. Tutoring is
also available to students through the English, Math,
Biology, Computer Science, and Student Support
Services departments.
We will celebrate the opening of our new School
of Nursing and Center for Science later this semester.
This state-of-the-art facility, designed to replicate a
hospital, will house the College’s acclaimed Nursing
Program, which enrolls more than 600 students each
semester, as well as our popular Biology Department
and related health and science classes.
Our focus is on you, and that is why the Aspen
Institute designated Wallace State as one of the top
120 community colleges in America, why Community
College Week ranked Wallace State among the "Top
50 Associate Degrees: Health Professions and Re-
lated Clinical Sciences" in the United States, why
more high school seniors taking the ACT indicate a
preference for attending Wallace State than any other
college in the Alabama Community College System,
and why Wallace State leads the System in student
success rates.
I invite you to Be One of Us this fall and join the
Wallace State of Mind!
