VOL. 10, ISSUE 3 • FALL 2015 Library hosts Workshop: Learn How to Unclutter, Sept. 17 A special workshop hosted by the Library, “Keep This Toss That: Unclutter Your Life to Save Time, Money, Space, and Sanity”, will be held on Thursday, September 17 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Nutrition Center. De-cluttering coach Jamie Novak, author of the best-selling book of the same name and self-proclaimed humorous organizer and motivational speaker will be on hand to offer do-able ideas on how to get organized! Jamie has been a guest on such networks as HGTV, digital sites like SheKnows.com and magazines including Woman’s World. “My favorite thing in the world is to have someone tell me one of my tips changed their life!” she says. She also hosts her own weekly Internet radio show Once-a-Week Organizing with Jamie. She reminds everyone that, “Friends don’t let friends organize alone, make a night of it and bring a friend!” For more information call the Library at 201-863- 7823. Attention Beatles Fans! The Weehawken Library hosts “The Beatles: From Liverpool to Abbey Road,” lecture by rock ‘n roll historian Vincent Bruno on Thursday, October 15 at 7 p.m. This session examines the historic journey of the Beatles, starting from their early days in Liverpool and Hamburg, into the excitement of Beatlemania, through their groundbreaking studio albums (Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper) to their remarkable final recordings at Abbey Road Studios. Audience participation is encouraged. Vincent Bruno is the Director of First Year Programs and Adjunct Professor at LaGuardia Community College. He is a Beatles historian/collector whose extensive Beatles library includes hundreds of albums/singles, unreleased recordings, books, video, and original lithographs. iPad Instruction at the Library Visit the Library on Tuesday, October 13 at 2 p.m. for a free workshop entitled “iPad Basics: An introduction to your new iPad.” Be sure to bring your device to the Library for how-to instructions on learning and maximizing its use. Special Screening of Web Series, Happy Thoughts on 10/18 The Library will host a special screening of Happy Thoughts on Sunday, October 18 at 7 p.m. The seven-part horror web-based series features a different classic children’s tales, each with a unique twist. Happy Thoughts is the brainchild of Melissa Malone, an actress and voice-over artist. While working as a nanny for a Weehawken family that was also involved with acting, Malone developed the idea for a short film that ultimately turned into the series. The majority of the cast consists of Hudson County residents. Many of the child actors are students in Weehawken and Hoboken schools and some of the adult actors come from Weehawken and Jersey City. Happy Thoughts has become a cult favorite, especially with teens. The Library will be screening all seven parts of the series in their entirety. Refreshments will be served. The Weehawken Library is participating in a national program with a very simple goal: to create lifetime readers starting at a very early age. As part of the program, parents visit the Library to register their infant, toddler, or preschooler. Then, they start reading! It’s as simple as that. They present their log at their library once they have read 50, 100, 200 books, and so on. Each time they achieve a goal, they get a stamp on the log and a sticker from their favorite librarian. Members will read one book during the month; the following month they will meet in the Library’s Community Room to watch the movie first -- and then discuss both the book and movie. Books/Movies and dates are: Sunday, October 4, Insurgent by Veronica Roth; Sunday, November 8, Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins; and Sunday, December 13, The 100 by Kass Morgan. Refreshments will be served. Interested teens can pick up the first book starting Wednesday, September 16.     SENIOR BINGO 4 BOOKS RESUMESSeniors (ages 62 and up) can stop by the Library for an afternoon of Bingo fun, lively conversation and light refreshments, plus a chance to take home some wonderful reading material! The Bingo 4 Books program will resume on Thursday September 17, October 8, November 12 and December 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. Bingo cards will be distributed free of charge to players (limit of two cards per person) and players will vie for a chance to select some favorite book titles as prizes.     ADULT BOOK CLUBS RESUMEThe Friday Afternoon Book Club returns for meetings on the second Friday of each month at 1 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Reading Room.     The Bookwormers: Ages 5 to 6, Fridays 4:30 to 5 p.m., November 13 and December 4. Young readers will be encouraged to share their thoughts on new easy reader books each session.The Book Enders: Ages 7 to 8, Mondays 4 to 5 p.m., November 16 and December 7. Members will enjoy a new chapter book or junior fiction book at each session followed by a lively discussion period led by a Library staffer.The Novelists: Ages 9 to 12, Mondays 4 to 5 p.m., November 23 and December 14. Junior fiction book readers will gather to discuss their shared experiences and opinions.Teen Scene: Ages 13 to18, Wednesdays 7 to 8 p.m., October 21, November 18 and December 16. Teens will read and then have the opportunity to discuss their opinions of different teen fiction books.
