Early Learning Programs for young children at WPL are based on early literacy research and include tips and information for parents and caregivers. Your active participation in these programs will maximize the experience for you and your child. Engaging in reading, rhyming, singing and movement activities together will help to build your child’s literacy skills for life.

Caregivers of children ages 9 and under must remain in the library while their children attend programs.

Afterwards, there will be a special craft time for kids where they will have a chance to make their own bird masterpiece!With A Bird Chronicle, learning the alphabet has never been more fun or more beautiful. A stunning collection of birds and letters, words and illustrations, stories and silhouettes, A Bird Chronicle is a children’s story book, ABC book, art book, and a keepsake to treasure for years to come.

Now and Then Youth Photography Exhibit Location: Main Library – Auditorium Thursday, September 21 7:00pmSee Waterloo through the camera lens of seven youth photographers (ages 10 to 17). In this exhibit, new photos of evolving Waterloo are set alongside shots of our Uptown from days past (via the WPL local history archives). In this journey into the past these young artists have compared landmarks as they have changed or endured, developing a greater appreciation for their surroundings in the process. Come and see things through their lens, as we celebrate the opening of the exhibit.Meet the photographers and their mentor photographer Jason Panda (artist/educator), enjoy light refreshments and learn more about the project. Culture Days Location: John M. Harper Branch, Community Room Saturday, September 30 1:00pm to 3:30pmIn celebration of Canada 150, WPL is teaming up with the Laurelwood Neighbourhood Association. Participants in this exciting Culture Days activity will be invited to create an art card inspired by the trees in their neighbourhoods. Participants will learn colour mixing and a variety of painting techniques while observing the shapes of trees and leaves. Unleash your inner creativity to make something beautiful to take home.
