CRUCIAL ESL ORAL LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

The basis for literacy in a language is oral language development. Speaking about content or issues allows ESL students to practice using the language that they are studying. It also gives students the chance to share ideas, collaborate with others, and clarify questions. ESL teachers must plan regular opportunities for their students to develop oral language skills to secure their success in learning English. Come to review the basic aspects of ESL oral language development and share your own personal experiences and lesson ideas for it from your classroom experience.

"Q:" CONNECTING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Adult ESL students transitioning from language competency to workforce readiness achieve more success by instruction that blends language skills and critical thinking skills. ESL teachers can promote critical thinking and language skills with a learner-centered approach using student learning outcomes (SLO). Language proficiency isn't the only factor holding students back from job placement success. Many students struggle with basic job skills including the ability to think critically. This presentation illustrates how Q:Skills for Success helps teachers learn how they can incorporate SLO’s into their classroom to help their students achievement their goals.
