Earth Care News
FPCP Partners in Earth Care…
Dishwashers Wanted… Once in a While We are looking for volunteers to join our Church Event Dishwashing Team. As we move towards being more earth-friendly, we would like to offer our services to any events within the church (receptions, funerals, breakfasts, etc.) using real plates from the kitchen or recyclable plastic plates & silverware. Our dishwashing team would either use the dishwasher for the real dishes or rinse and recycle the plastic ones. The time commitment would be 1-2 hours for any event. If you are interested in joining the team, please contact Debra MacGregor at 734-649-1265 or Kiki Farrow at 734-459-3769.
Name that Leaf! We invite you to visit the FPCP Presbyterians for Earth Care bulletin board (just
outside the receptionist office). Bring your family along. There you will find
interesting information on trees and leaves in our community. Play the leaf
identification game. Then take a stroll around the FPCP grounds to see which ones you can identify.
Enjoy God’s creation this fall in all its colorful glory!

Stewardship News
Stewardship 2017: We Are a Family of Faith
As we prepare for a new year of ministry and commitment, First Presbyterian Church of Plymouth faces many changes. The world around us is always changing, and our church is confronting new challenges. As a family, and with deep connections to each other and to God, we move forward in faith and with the confidence that God has new and exciting experiences for us yet to come. Consecration Sunday, which takes place on October 23, gives us the opportunity to share our gifts to promote spiritual growth through giving while sustaining and growing our church’s ministry. During worship (all three services), you are invited to complete 2017 financial commitment cards as an act of worship. Completing an Estimate of Giving Card is voluntary and completely confidential. If you are unable to attend that day, please complete and return the enclosed card or download one from the Stewardship section (under “Serve”) of the church website (www.fpcp.net). You may wish to consider “stepping up” as you pray about your giving. Note: No one will call you at your home for a pledge.
After each service on October 23 (at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.), you are warmly invited to join with other family members in a celebration to be held in the narthex. Delicious refreshments will be served. We encourage you to be part of this time of fellowship. Thank you for your support and for responding prayerfully to God’s guidance in your life. Tina Creguer, Martha Boeve, Jack Farrow, and Orlean Heidel Stewardship Committee

KIDS HOPE USA “No matter how hard you try, you cannot make a
miracle happen for yourself. But you can put yourself in position to help a miracle happen for
someone else.” David Staal, Show UP
Kids Hope USA is an early childhood intervention program for at-risk children. Our church began this program in the fall last year and 20 children in our community experienced a powerful truth in their lives. That they matter. Close your eyes and imagine the power of that truth for a child whose life experiences or circumstances have kept them from achieving academic or social success. As a mentor you have this ability to change the life of a child through this powerful truth. Our church’s program is inviting you to consider joining KHUSA. The cost is one hour a week with one child for one academic year. One. Show one child that they matter. To learn more, please email Susan Johnson, Director Elementary Program, at [email protected] or
Marie McCubbrey, Director Middle School Program, at [email protected] (248-421-4442)
Community Dinner at Second Mile Center The Local Mission Committee is looking for volunteers willing to help serve a community dinner at Second Mile Center on Monday, October 24. We will meet at the church around 4:00 pm to carpool to SMC. We plan on returning to the church around 8:00 pm. Can’t make it on October 24 but would still like to help? We need volunteers to provide 2 dozen cookies or brownies (homemade or store bought; no nuts, please!). Baked goods would need to be delivered to the church no later than noon on October 24. Thank you for supporting this special ministry!
Look for the sign-up sheet on the Local Mission bulletin board.
Dear families, The Local Mission Committee of FPCP was pleased to welcome Ruth Azar and the children of the Sign Mime Group to our church on Sunday, September 25. We were so honored to have Ruth preach and the children perform at each of the three services on that day. In addition to the special financial collection we started on September 25, we want to continue our support of the after-school activities of the SMC by collecting games, puzzles, toys and coloring books that your family no longer needs. Please consider working with your children to
share unused activities with the children at the SMC. You can bring them to church at any time. There is a container for them in the collection area in the lower level. Thank you for your support of this wonderful and important Center for Detroit families.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOX TIME
On Sunday, October 16th, you will have the opportunity to learn about the Operation Christmas
Child Shoebox project. Empty shoeboxes and instructions on how to fill a shoebox will be available to pick up in the Narthex on that day and will also be distributed to the Sunday School
children. We will also be showing a video in the Chapel between services on all the places shoeboxes travel to and how a simple shoebox can make a BIG difference in a child’s life.
Last year we collected over 256 shoeboxes but we’re
going BIG this year.
Our goal is a whopping 300 shoeboxes!
National & International Mission
Marion Medical Mission Update
Greetings from Malawi! Thanks so much for your prayers and support for Marion Medical Mission's shallow well program. Our first team is wrapping up their three week assignment on Oct. 8th. Work has gone well despite the usual issues of sick volunteers, truck breakdowns, parts problems, etc. Through Oct. 3rd, 1,025 wells have been installed of the 2,500 planned. The second team, including Tom Kage from FPCP, will be arriving on Sunday, Oct. 9th and will be working three weeks through Oct. 30th. I wish you could all experience the joy of the people when clean water is pumped out of the new wells for the first time. I will be able to share some pictures and videos when back in Plymouth. We are so blessed to have easy access to safe drinking water in our communities; these trips are a good reminder to me that not everyone is so fortunate. Good for all of us to celebrate and thank the Lord for the gift of clean water! Looking forward to being back home in Plymouth later in the year. Doug Kee
