Franklin Park CoalitionMission“The Franklin Park Coalition (FPC) is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to involving the community in the stewardship of Franklin Park, Boston’s largest green space. Designed by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted in the late 1800s to provide an oasis for urban dwellers, Franklin Park still serves as a beacon to the surrounding neighborhoods. The FPC was founded in 1974 by community members concerned about mismanagement in the park. They cleaned up the park, removed abandoned cars and other refuse, and made the park an urban oasis once again. The Coalition became dormant as conditions in Franklin Park improved, but repeated park mismanagement and poor maintenance, over-development, and misuse of natural resources led to a revival of the Coalition in the late 1990s. Today, our work falls into three program areas: 1. Conservation & Stewardship 2. Events 3. Advocacy & Outreach We also like to think of these three categories as "Work", "Play", and "Engage" -- the three pillars of the Franklin Park Coalition. Located in the heart of the city’s communities of color, the FPC and Franklin Park’s constituency comes primarily from Roxbury, Dorchester, Jamaica Plain, and Mattapan. These neighborhoods have heavily African-American, Caribbean (Haitian and Jamaican), Latino, and gay populations, as well as many immigrants.”

Freedom for All MassachusettsMission

“In June 2015, the broad-based bipartisan coalition Freedom for All Massachusetts launched with the goal of updating Massachusetts’

longstanding civil rights laws to include nondiscrimination protections for transgender people in public places such as restaurants, hotels, and

hospitals. By June 2016, the law had passed by an overwhelming bipartisan supermajority of votes in both legislative chambers. It went into effect on October 1, 2016, making Massachusetts the 18th state to fully protect transgender people from discrimination under the law. In October

2016, the Secretary of the Commonwealth confirmed that opponents of the law secured the low threshold of signatures – less than 1% of the

Commonwealth’s population – needed to force this commonsense update of our state law onto the 2018 ballot. The goal of the Freedom for All

Massachusetts campaign in 2017 is to continue building the Commonwealth’s familiarity with transgender people and to continue

growing support for fair and equal treatment. Full transgender equality is the law in Massachusetts now. When presented in 2018 with the question of whether to continue to treat transgender people as equal members of

the Commonwealth, voters will vote yes.”

You’re With Us!Mission

“You’re With Us! is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) human services organization that creates inclusion opportunities for young adults (18+) who, because of their

disabilities, are not part of a group, community or activity that would be typical of their able bodied peers.

People with disabilities often feel different and excluded from normal social opportunities. You’re With Us! aids these young adults in belonging to a group

and receiving the benefits young people would typically receive from out of school activities. Benefits of this inclusion flow in both directions. Individuals with disabilities have the potential to influence those around them – a special ability to open people up to compassion, empathy and leadership. Further,

You’re With Us! seeks to change the perceptions of disabled young people who believe they are separate and excluded by helping them become a part of the

communities centered on the activities that they enjoy. In turn, their new peers in these communities, who may have thought of individuals with disabilities as

“other” or different, now find them to be friends, teammates, and even family. All people are healthiest when they feel safe, supported, and connected to

others in their neighborhoods and communities. The inclusion of people with disabilities in these communities provides the essential social skills and

leadership tools to allow them to lead a full life.”

Opportunities• Volunteers would serve as

supports in our organization.

• They would accompany one of the participants with a disability to a practice/game/meeting/event and serve as support should the individual need it.

• Consideration and understanding is a must for this position.
