NASHVILLE: WEDNESDAY HiORNING, JAN. 18, 1851. INSPECTORS OF THE PENITENTIARY. Anis Brow.v, Esq., Dr. B. W. Hall, and Isaac Paul, Esq., were yesterday confirmed as Inspec- tors of the Penitentiary, by the vote of all the dem- ocratic Senators present, and two of the whig Sena- tors. A motion to reconsider was made and re- jected, and the clerk was directed forthwith to cer tify the fact to the Governor. NEW TRIAL. "We learn that CoL Sam'l. Rocker, convicted of murder in the second degree, last week, in thecrimi nal court, : t Murfrecsboro', has obtained a new tr'a' It appears that one of the jurora had, previous to the trial, expressed an opinion unfavorable to the pris oner. TnE --Eolian iliNSTRFxa. There is no mistake in this band of minstrels. It ranks with the very best we have ever listened to. The music is well ar- ranged, the singing excellent, and the fun uproari ous. They come among us so modestly, determm ed to rely upon their own merits, without prelimi nary palling, that the audience last night andit was good one was taken by surprise, and the praise was warm anil unanimous. They sine; again to night, and will have a crowded house. 5?" The monster ocean ship Great Republic re- cently extensively damaged by the large fire in Ne.v York, appears on examination to be in better condition than was at first supposed. Five steam pumps were put aboard the other day and the twelve feet of water reduced at the rate of a foot an hour. The large and valuable cargo of flour, grain, fcc , below deck?, is only damaged by water, and the greater portion of it will be valuable. The soakage of the flour will not probably affect more limn oue-foui- th of the barrel, probably less, and the grain, of course, will be dried and still valuable for animal food, and corn starch. NASHVILLE:WEDNESDAY HiORNING, JAN. 18, 1851.

INSPECTORS OF THE PENITENTIARY.

Anis Brow.v, Esq., Dr. B. W. Hall, and IsaacPaul, Esq., were yesterday confirmed as Inspec-

tors of the Penitentiary, by the vote of all the dem-

ocratic Senators present, and two of the whig Sena-

tors. A motion to reconsider was made and re-

jected, and the clerk was directed forthwith to certify the fact to the Governor.

NEW TRIAL.

"We learn that CoL Sam'l. Rocker, convicted ofmurder in the second degree, last week, in thecriminal court, : t Murfrecsboro', has obtained a new tr'a'It appears that one of the jurora had, previous to thetrial, expressed an opinion unfavorable to the pris

TnE --Eolian iliNSTRFxa. There is no mistake in

this band of minstrels. It ranks with the very best

we have ever listened to. The music is well ar-

ranged, the singing excellent, and the fun uproarious. They come among us so modestly, determmed to rely upon their own merits, without prelimi

nary palling, that the audience last night andit wasgood one was taken by surprise, and the praisewas warm anil unanimous. They sine; again tonight, and will have a crowded house.

5?" The monster ocean ship Great Republic re-

cently extensively damaged by the large fire inNe.v York, appears on examination to be in bettercondition than was at first supposed. Five steampumps were put aboard the other day and thetwelve feet of water reduced at the rate of a footan hour. The large and valuable cargo of flour, grain, fcc , below deck?, is only damaged by water, and the greater portion of it will be valuable. Thesoakage of the flour will not probably affect morelimn oue-foui- th of the barrel, probably less, andthe grain, of course, will be dried and still valuablefor animal food, and corn starch.
