FUNDRAISING FUNDEMENTALS
FALL / WINTER
PICK A PROJECT
SELL STRATEGICALLY
MAKE IT EASY! EXTEND APPRECIATION
SET GOALSRaising money for a specific project (i.e. travelling to a tournament) is generally much easier than raising “general funds”. Not only is motivation higher for specific projects but the sale is often much easier when you can be specific about where the money is going.
Most successful fundraising campaigns start with a goal. Setting a specific targeted amount keeps everyone focused and motivated. It’s also very important to keep everyone informed about the progress (i.e. how close you are to achieving your goal). One way of doing this is to post a fundraising thermometer in your club
BE FRIENDLY: Get the attention of the customer by using a friendly approach and be sure to make eye contact.
COMMUNICATE THE CAUSE: Let the customer know why you are raising funds (be specific).
DEMONSTRATE NEED: Show the customer how much you need to raise to achieve your goal.
EXPLAIN THE VALUE: Be sure to explain how much value is in the product you are selling.
To facilitate the sale, you should make it as easy as possible for an individual to make a purchase. Make sure you have correct change on hand.
Thanking everyone for their purchase is probably the most important step in fundraising. This can be a simple “thank you” or even a small thank you card/flyer. Saying thanks will make it much easier to fundraise next time around.
