nickels, dimes, quarters, half dollars and a few bills on their dry goods table. Total cash taken in for the day was $466.59. Almost as much as they invested in the store. In the months that followed he worked morning till night not closing until he was convinced that he could not make another sale. He even surveyed the streets outside. At the end of the first year sales reached nearly $29,000. He was able to pay off his entire loan. Today his stores number over a 1000 and are found all across America. Gross sales in 2011 were nearly 12 billion. The young man’s name, James Cash Penney. Shrewd merchants and bankers told him that it would not pay to trust people and try and put religious ideas into business. But these prophets of doom were wrong. J.C. Penney said that the Golden Rule is a practical rule for business as it is for living. If a man is willing to do unto others as he expects them to do unto him he will find that far from giving more than he gets, he will get more than he gives. J.C. Penney believed that courtesy is a key factor in a successful business and discourte-sy a major factor in business failures. At FallsCreek we believe in the “Golden Rule.” We need to be a people who radiate warmth, wholesomeness. We need to go out of our way to welcome people and serve others.
THE GOLDEN RULE “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you…” Matthew 7:12 On April 1, 1902 a young 26 year old man and his wife Bertha arrived in Kemmerer, Wyoming. Kemmerer was a typical small western town with a few wooden buildings. He rented a vacant building for $45 a month and opened a cash and carry store. About one thousand people lived in Kemmerer which was a mining town. He was told he would not succeed in his new venture. The bank cashier at the only bank in town discouraged him. He told him that no cash and carry store would survive. Simple reason being, miners had no cash. The minors were pressured, intimidated and forced to buy from the company stores. However, this young man met objection with a confident smile. He said that you will be surprised at the amount of business I will do in my little “Golden rule store”. The store name reflected his religious beliefs. The building that he rented had one room down and an attic that was accessed by outside stairs, that served for his home. The date was set for opening day. He mailed a flyer to 500 miners announcing the opening of the new “Golden Rule” store. On opening day miners and ranchers poured in from sun up to sun down. He and his wife served the miners and their wives with courtesy and warm friendliness that the miners did not find in the company stores. At midnight he climbed the attic stairs to his home; carrying cash from the first day’s sales. It was a thrilling moment to say the least. Sitting on their shoebox chairs and counting their pennies,
"I am not descended from monkeys, though you may be fooled at first glance.
I'm the work of God, my Creator! I am not the product of chance.
I did not evolve from a tadpole who got lost and wandered ashore......
But by God's hand, His will and plan, I am, and nothing more."
During our month long creation vs
evolution series we had a special
guest... whom we learned is NOT
one of our long lost relatives …
The kids LOVED it.
Our Youth attended the Winter Jam Concert in
Cleveland, featuring the Christian artists Jeremy Camp, Family Force 5,
Blanca, For King & Country, Skillet and
others.
