Experience the Joy of Music
Welcome to the Joy of Music!I personally invite you and your entire family to join me and our A2SO family of musicians as we celebrate music from timeless classics like Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals and Aaron Copland’s Hoe Down from “Rodeo.” Join me in a joyous worldwide exploration of key musical masterpieces like Sibelius’ Finlandia and Elgar’s Nimrod from the “Enigma Variations” as we travel to hear the best symphonic music from Europe, Asia, Africa, South and North America. I’m happy to introduce your youngsters to the next generation of classics like Bright Sheng’s Postcards from the Savage Lands and Samuel Akpabot’s Three Nigerian Dances.
I am committed to providing you and your family with quality live music that engages listening, delights imagination, and sparks learning for all ages. For example, you’ll hear brand-new poetry by Ann Arbor’s Neutral Zone’s VOLUME slam poets to accompany the musical animal descriptions in Carnival of the Animals. Award-winning Ann Arbor children’s author Nancy Shaw’s Raccoon Tune will come alive on the Michigan Theater stage, and I guarantee you will be joining Josh Penman, our composer-narrator in singing along in the joyous, happy rhymes.
Come travel with me to enjoy music that transforms your children’s lives, inspires their dreams, moves their senses, and transcends boundaries.
See you at the Symphony,
Arie LipskyMusic Director and Conductor

Benard L. Maas Foundation Family Concert Series
Classical music isn’t just for grown-ups! Each of the one-hour concerts at the Michigan Theater begins with family-friendly fun in the lobby from 2:30 – 3:30 pm, like an Instrument Petting Zoo, science-related activities from our community partners at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum or UM Museum of Natural History, or art projects with our friends at the Ann Arbor Art Center or UM Museum of Art! Renew that family tradition — or begin your new family tradition — of coming to a concert!
