Family Businesses: Adjusting to the Changing Economy
Increases in the minimum wage. Federal mandates and skyrocketing
health care costs. Rising interest rates. Election year posturing and
promises. Challenges in succession planning. All these issues, and more,
can create barriers to growth for a family owned business. But they are

Mike is an entrepreneur and experienced mergers and
acquisitions advisor who has owned and operated several
successful high technologybusinesses, has an extensive
background in brokering small and middle market
transactions, deal structure, financing and brings a sense of fairness and
equality to the transaction. Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting
degree and an MBA degree, and holds CPA and Certified Business
Intermediary credentials. He is actively involved in many organizations
representing the mergers and acquisitions industry.

Debra Drapalla is a Senior Vice President at Webster
Bank in their Boston Middle Market Lending Group. She
advises middle market companies in various industries
with revenues from $15 million to $500 million regarding their senior debt
requirements for mergers and acquisitions, working capital, equipment and
real estate financing needs. Over her twenty-five year banking career, she has
underwritten over $1 billion in senior debt facilities for middle-market and
family-owned businesses along with providing sound business advice to
her clients. She is a graduate of Boston University’s School of Management
where she studied economics and finance. She is Co-Chair of Dana-Farber’s
Leadership Council which supports Dana-Farber’s mission of eradicating
cancer through research and providing compassionate patient care. Debra is
also an active member of the Family Business Association and Association
of Corporate Growth. In her spare time, she enjoys playing golf and travelling
the world.

About the Family Business Association
Accredited in both Business Valuations (ABV) and Certified Financial
Forensics (CFF) by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants,
he has specialized in business valuations and litigation support services for
last 30 years. John has also been an adjunct lecturer at Brown University
and Bryant University and has been a guest speaker/presenter for the Rhode
Island and American Bar Associations and Bryant University’s Master of
Taxation Program. He has an undergraduate degree from the University
of Rhode Island with a concentration in accounting as well as a Master of
Science in Taxation degree from Bryant University.

Chris is the Founder and Managing Partner of TribalVision,
an outsourced marketing department for hire with offices
in Boston and Providence. Motivated by his frustration
with the conflict of interests inherent in the traditional marketing model,
in 2010 Chris founded TribalVision - a forward thinking alternative to the
traditional advertising agency model. Chris was recently recognized by
the Small Business Association (SBA) as the 2015 Rhode Island Small
Business Person of the Year. Chris also is a “40 Under Forty” Providence
Business News recipient.
Matt Henning

Morris Mahoney Co.
Matt has spent his legal career providing legal, risk
management, and strategic business advice to start up,
closely held, and family-owned businesses. He represents
clients in a broad range of legal matters including mergers
and acquisitions, employment disputes, director and officer liability,
investment and securities issues and regulatory compliance, with
particular experience in the life science sector. Matthew also serves as
outside general counsel to a number of private companies that do not
have in house legal staffs. In this capacity, he advises clients on day to day
legal matters including employment policies and procedures, executive
compensation arrangements, shareholder and founder issues and
counseling senior executives on company business strategy. From 2009 to
2012, Matt was recognized by New England Super Lawyers Magazine as a
“Rising Star.”
