Family Resource Management 362 –Fall 2008 – Dr. Glotzer Assignment II Family Creation Paper – Choosing Family Values and Management Style The assignment has three parts and should be divided by subheadings. I. In the first part of the paper consider a family that you admire and that you would like to emulate in your own (future or present) family. (The family can be from your Family History/Genogram Assignment or it can be a family unrelated to you.) In about two pages describe the features of the family that you admire in terms of family resource management. Describe them in terms of: a) The ir le vel of gener al happiness or well bein g b) Commu nicati on styl e – how do family members communica te with on e another ? c) Manage ment St yle – How do th ey mana ge thei r fami ly af fairs ? d) Use of resou rces – How well do they use r esources? e) Decis ion maki ng – what pro cesses are used t o make deci sions wi th the fa mily ? II. Provide a personal definition of what family means to you. Identify goals, values, aspirations and planning. This part of your pape r should be between a long paragraph and a page long. Feel free to use research articles, books internet sources, or material covered in class or your paper. Please cite sources used in your definition and use quotation marks if you are quoting directly from a source. III. In the third section of this paper, construct your own hypothetical – or real family, based on your definition of family, and keeping in mind the features of the family that you admire . Show the advant ages of the fami ly you wish to crea te as well as any potential disadvantages that may be involved. Use at least five articles from scholarly sources on families to support your argument. For example; If you state you would like a family with democratic management style, support your choice by showing what the advantages of democratic management style are for families. Immediately after you use a source put the author’s last name and the date in parenthesis. A full bibliography should follow at the end of the paper. This part of the paper should be between three and fourpages long.
