GENERAL INFORMATIONThe 31st Annual Family Medicine Winter Symposium focuses on problems commonly encountered by family physicians, with special emphasis on refi ning diagnostic and therapeutic skills.

OBJECTIVESFollowing participation in the early-bird session, you will be prepared to:

list methods to incorporate medical students into your implementation of patient-centered medical homes

Following participation in plenary sessions, you will be prepared to: formulate a plan of on-going care for patients who survive cancer describe new treatments for diabetes and their applications identify local initiatives for patients with diabetes relate prominent issues and trends in the future of primary care and their impact on family

physicians and patients

Following participation in various concurrent sessions, you will be prepared to: recommend best use of local resources for patients who are cancer survivors compare and contrast various infant formulas and their appropriate uses optimize coding to more accurately bill for performed services use updated immunization guidelines treat concussion patients according to current guidelines provide helpful information to patients traveling to foreign countries discuss injectable medications for diabetes and their indications for use summarize the indications and methods of labor induction apply evidence-based information to the management of depression select the optimal treatment of diabetes for several specifi c patient situations review evidence for management of various presentations of illness/injury in the

emergency department describe new and review older methods of contraception discuss models of payment reform, including their effectiveness, for chronic disease

management coordinate the best provision of care for your patients with chronic wound issues individualize management of atrial fi brillation to maximize benefi t and minimize risk recognize vulvar conditions and recommend appropriate management manage the care of patients with chronic pain and related issues

CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITThe University of Kansas School of Medicine–Wichita is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Kansas School of Medicine–Wichita designates this live activity for a maximum of 9.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This Live activity, 31st Annual Family Medicine Winter Symposium, with a beginning date of Dec. 2, 2011, has been reviewed and is acceptable for up to 9.50 Prescribed credits by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

University of Kansas Area Health Education Center East, Pittsburg, Kans., as an approved provider of continuing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing, presents this offering for a maximum of 11.3 contact hours applicable for relicensure. Credit will be prorated based upon attendance. Kansas Provider No. LT 0056-0749.

REGISTRATIONThis activity is designed for family physicians, but registration is open to physicians in all specialties. Physician assistants and advanced practice nurses may also benefi t from this activity and are encouraged to attend. The registration fee is $190 for physicians and $125 for others. Registrations paid on or before Friday, Nov. 25, are eligible for a $10 discount. The fee includes a course syllabus, refreshments, and lunch on Friday.

With pre-registration, KU School of Medicine–Wichita resident physicians and medical students may attend without charge. Lunch on Friday will be provided.

Refunds requested in writing by Nov. 25 are subject to a $10 administrative charge. No refunds will be made after Nov. 25.

Early registration is recommended. Seating, materials, and refreshments may not be available for on-site registrants.
