Click Start; Click All Programs Click Microsoft Office Click Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 After the program pops up, click on the circle icon in the top left hand corner Click Save As; Click PowerPoint 97-2003 Presentation In the Save As Box, Click on My Computer (left hand side) DOUBLE Click on Removable Disk (F:) Where it says File name: type the name of your American Click Save *You will save your PowerPoint, any pictures you need, and your Word document (your typed report) on your stick drive. After today, you will open your PowerPoint, etc. from your thumb drive. Follow the directions below to do this. ***DON’T FORGET TO SAVE AS YOU GO ALONG WHEN YOU WORK ON A PROJECT! Changing a Background (DO THIS ON EVERY SLIDE!)Click the Design tabChoose from any of the backgrounds shown in the boxes*If you want your background to be a particular color, right click on the white part of your slide (away from the titles, etc.)Click Format Background Click the down arrow (v) Click more colorsSelect the color of your choice by clicking on itHit ok (Advanced students: pick gradient fill, picture or texture fill to create backgrounds)

Second Slide: Introduction to Famous American and PictureMake sure you are on the Home pageClick on the down arrow next to New SlideClick on the Two Content box

To enter your famous American’s name, click in the title box. Type their name.

To enter your American’s vital statistics, click in the text box ON THE LEFT.

Type in the information - include your Famous American’s full name and birth name (if different), date of birth, place of birth, date of death (if applicable)Double check your spelling, capitalization, punctuation, etc.Next, insert a picture of your famous AmericanIn the text box ON THE RIGHT, Click the icon with the mountains and sun so you can insert a saved picture from your thumb drive. COMPLETE AFTER DOING THE FAMOUS AMERICAN PICTURE SEARCH IN GOOGLE.If you have not saved a picture of your American, you can go to the internet, find a picture, then copy and paste the picture onto this slide. Please read the instructions below.

How to Find and Insert a PictureOpen Internet ExplorerType in www.google.com in the browser and hit enterClick on Images at the top of the screenIn the search engine, type your famous American’s full nameThen click on search images Find a picture you like and double click on itIf you can, click on see full size imageRight click on the pictureClick copyGo to your PowerPointIn the picture box right clickClick paste

Moving or Changing the Size of a PictureTo move the image:Left click on your picture and hold the mouse button down- when the white dots appear on the corners of your picture, you can drag the picture to where you want itTake your finger off the mouse button when the picture is where you want it to be

To make the picture larger or smaller:Position the cursor arrow over a corner of the imageClick on the corner and pull out to make the picture bigger, or push in to make the picture smallerTake your finger off the mouse when your picture is the size you wantDO NOT CHANGE THE SIZE BY PULLING ON THE SIDE – YOUR PICTURE WILL BE DISTORTED AND LOOK FUNNY!

Third Slide: Important Contributions Make sure you are on the Home pageClick on the down arrow next to New SlideClick on the Two Content boxTo type Important Contributions, click in the title box To enter your American’s contributions, click in the text box ON YOUR LEFT*Include your Famous American’s contributions. In other words, what has this person done to make American history?Double check your spelling, capitalization, punctuation, etc.Next, in the text box ON THE RIGHT insert two small pictures of your famous American that are different from the one on the second slide (use directions from page 2)*If you can, find a couple pictures that show your American “in action,” or making contributions to America

Adding Information to Timeline#1 Click on the top left text boxType in the year your American was born#2 Click on the pie piece that touches the first date you enteredType in where your American was born#3 Click on the top right text boxType in an important year of your American’s life#4 Click on the pie piece that touches the second dateType in what was so special about this year (What did your American accomplish?)#5 Click on the bottom right text box.Type in another important year in your American’s life#6 Click on the pie piece that touches the third dateType in the importance of this year (What happened?)#7 Click on the final text box, the bottom leftType in your American’s death year (OR ANOTHER IMPORTANT EVENT YEAR IF YOUR AMERICAN IS STILL LIVING!) #8 Click on the pie piece that touches the fourth Type in where your American died or where he/she is buried date (OR ANOTHER IMPORTANT EVENT IF YOUR AMERICAN IS STILL LIVING!)

If you need to, you may highlight the typed information to change the font color, text, or font size. Make sure everything is legible so the teachers can easily read the information!
